REPORT: No movement in Panthers’ talks w/ Taylor Moton

I have no problem whatsoever with 3.

Norman's agent didn't understand easily Jerry Richardson could devolve into a fit of pique, unfortunate situation.

I've seen no public comments whatsoever from the Panthers questioning Moton in any way, nothing improper going on that would hurt  their negotiating position.

Three tags just isn't happening. To even get to 2 tags will likely result in a soured relationship. The Panthers aren't foolish enough to do so through direct official channels or any of their social media pages. This is done via anonymous sources. Such as the indirect talk of the Panthers not feeling he is a comparable player to Ramczyk with the Saints. That's fine they feel that way but Carolina still has a serious need. And if they did not feel he is comparable to elite talent they should have foreseen this moment months ago and planned accordingly instead of waiting until the last minute to suddenly question his worth. It seems amateurish.

If Moton is going to switch to LT seems to me he would want to play under the tag...

...if he proves he can do it there's a bigger pot of dough at the end of that particular rainbow.

Unless he wants that kind of money now, which would explain why there is no deal yet…

You raise an interesting issue...

...who has considered the possibility that Moton's camp is making an ask that's completely unrealistic?

Naaah...has to be the billionaire-meanie beating up on the little guy.

The players and owners agreed to a system of tags that was deemed to be fair to both parties.  Whether 3-tags happens is yet to be determined but it is in the set of possible outcomes.  Don't care about a "soured relationship"...if you want to

Nonsense.  This just is not happening.

Again, nonsense.  There is absolutely nothing "sudden" or "amateurish" going on here...it's simply a long-term negotiation that hasn't culminated in a deal...and that's OK, especially from the Panthers perspective.

I have seen some basically shrewd moves by the front office concerning free agents.  If Erving and Elflien and Darnold work out--or at least Darnold and one other, the most questionable personnel decisions will be wins.  The others, like the Miller, Riddick, Perryman, Arnold, Bouye, etc. signings look damn good right now.  So trust the front office--this ain't Marty Hurney and his Magic 8 ball.  We have a capologist and a pretty good GM it seems.  I trust them.  Moton is ours for 2021.  If Christensen looks good at RT in camp, Moton could be signed and traded for all we know.  I love smart football players, and that describes Moton.  I want to keep him, but not if it means that we sell out at the negotiating table.  Sure, its only a 2 million difference---until it happens again, and again, and then you can't sign a player you want to keep because you are in cap hell.  Stay the course.  It is all about QBs anyway--not right tackles--and all this LT talk--he is unproven there--when he played there, he sucked.

...get paid show up and play -- no pouting allowed.

[end of that sentence got cut off somehow]

Well you have your opinion I have mine. I feel like you are only seeing it from one perspective and that is of the front office. That's fine but that just isn't the way the world works in a business setting where you have to build relationships. Beyond that I just want an adequate oline to protect our quarterback so we can get back to winning. As far as I know we all want the same result we just differ on the path somewhat.

True.

Nope.  That said, I do believe the best interests of the overall team/franchise are always the first consideration.

Does the business you work for allow you to set your own pay level?

Agreed.

Again, agreed.

When I was in grad school Warren Buffet came and spoke to our value-investing class.  He had about 5-minutes of prepared comments and then fielded Q&A for 2-hours, it was pretty damn interesting.

In the prepared commentary Warren said "whatever bad traits you might share with the person on your left try to minimize them, and whatever good traits you don't share with the person on your right try to acquire them"...

...I'm looking for the Panthers to acquire a lot (not all!) of the hard-line "this is serious business" (both in the front office & on the field) no-holds-barred traits that have defined the Patriots for years now --- said traits are the baseline for their astounding success over the long-term.

The Patriots don't ever cave to player demands and rarely if ever hand out crappy contracts that are unfriendly to the team/

Frustrated Buzz Lightyear GIF

I don't think people are saying fu to him. I think most of us just don't understand why he hasn't signed yet when the market was set by the saints. Maybe he will switch sides and that's why but giving Irving the contract we did kinda says the panthers feel he's a really good RT. Either way I don't think people want to see him go.

    • I can say that I have defended Canales because I get that they are doing all they can to keep from looking like idiots for drafting Bryce, from the trade up to signing $150m guards to drafting XL and Brooks etc---nothing seems to work.  And Hiring Canales was part of the Bryce Young rehab program, so so he can't really decide to "move on."  That has to come from Morgan and Tepper. Personally, I think Bryce is due for an injury.  He is small, he is not thick, and he has been a LOT more healthy than most any other QB has who has endured so much pressure.  The thing that bothers me is this---Bryce really does not go through his progressions quickly.  He locks on to his presnap read and stays locked onto him for too long--he seems to fail to anticipate the WR/TE's positioning on the play before the cut--for example, if the WR is running a dig and the CB has his back to the inside of the field, he should be open for a second or less just after the cut.  He seems to wait until the cut has been made before deciding, then checking down quickly while moving in the pocket. OL:  There seems to be a lack of communication--is that on Mays?  Watch this team presnap--they seem a bit confused at times.   I can almost predict the success rate of the play by watching the center and QB before the snap.
    • Anyone else remember back in 2010 when Fox piloted having music under the in-game replays during one of Carolina's games? Not the commercial bumpers but the actual replay clips that the announcers would talk over. Pretty sure it was vs the 49ers. And it was terrible. Point being, Carolina continues being so bad that we get the networks trying things out during their games.
    • Is it bad I found this video more hilarious than pathetic? I am still laughing at that one play where half the people on the field ran into each other and Bryce still couldn't see Chuba wide open... Also laughing at Cade blocking nobody and somehow losing his cleat Man this offense is a poo show
