Please tell me Watt isn't playing either. He already ruined one Quarterback of mine.......................

if they aren't even risking their 2nd string QB....I would imagine you will see the bottom of the Steelers depth chart from start to finish.

Heck, at this point I don't think Rhule should even bother playing the starters.  Our starters vs the guys the Steelers are going to sit on the bench or cut for a half?

I think the fringe guys with nothing lose and everything to gain are the most dangerous.   They are the least sound players and more likely to do something stupid and get someone hurt.   Seems like a pointless risk/exposure.    Obviously, all reps have injury exposure.  But if you aren't even going to rep them against comparable talent.....it gets harder to justify exposing them IMO.   I mean, I have seen coaches punish starters in preseason by keeping them in for an extra series to go against backups after disappointing.   But just playing a half vs backups would be some weird stuff.

Just a weird preseason.  Reporter asked him today about the talent/competition  disparity today and how he could actually get what he claimed he wanted with it.  He gave a non-answer.  As coaches do.

This preseason has sucked. Time will tell how this was managed. I feel like Rhule missed some early opportunities to get some actual in-game work and timing down for this extremely young roster that oh, by the way, has a brand new (potential bust) QB.

Just seems like a weird preseason all around, and we didn’t make the most of our opportunities. Playing the 1s in this game versus the Steelers scrubs is a waste of time and we gain nothing by doing it.

    • I will say that Dan came into a fvcked up situation (perhaps partly his making, but that's another discussion). We were devoid of talent, cash-strapped and draft-position-challenged. Plus, he had to have time to develop a plan and acquire the right staff. I think that he's made some inroads on the offense (though still a work in progress), now he has a little latitude to focus on improving the defense. If he doesn't address two of the three major needs on defense this year, there is really no excuse. The only fly in that ointment will possibly be the Ickey injury (and two a lesser extent BC). We may have to prepare ourselves for a trade-back. I don't know how we're going to do everything without more picks. Morgan and Tillis have to work some magic, otherwise we may be thinking that the FO is wilfully ignoring critical positions again. We absolutely need an LT, a pass rusher, a middle 'backer, and a safety. How are we going to get viable talent at all these positions? It's going to be interesting to see what happens, but I'm thinking we have to acquire more picks.
    • There's only 32 NFL HC jobs available. It's not like you can just sit back and wait for the perfect opportunity. For the money it pays, I'll go out to Vegas and make a complete ass of myself with a poo eating grin you couldn't beat off my face with a crowbar.
    • This is complicated by him being a UFA and being unable to pass a physical. Also, he isn't young to be having that sort of injury.  As fantastic as he has been, the plan SHOULD be to get another quality utility OL in the draft and if BC becomes available, sign him off the couch when he is ready to go. He won't have many suitors(as he didn't last season) so I suspect this will be an option. Curhan was fine...for a PS player. I do think we need to aim higher there, as well.
