Matt Rhule defends Joe Brady

I agree. The game shouldnt had been as close as it was. We turned over the ball in the end zone, missed a XP field goal, punted when we should have kicked a FG, had some key drops and multiple penalties, I know the one holding penalty by Elfein probably cost us a drive. Also dropped TD pass by Thomas.  It the first game of the season so you can expect there to be more mistakes. We should have had 10-17 more points if it wasn’t for the mistakes.

Yes, don't know if it's Rhule or Brady but there was no intensity / urgency on the offensive side of the ball coming out in the second half.  It reminded me of Fox and Rivera.

Rivera and the tried and true method of sitting on a FG lead to start the second quarter.

Tried and true meaning its obviously going to fail

I still think Brady largely called a good first half but totally botched the second half. The difference clearly shows in the offensive stats in each halves. In the second half it took a full quarter before he adjusted to the Jets' pressure.

How much of it is Brady or Rhule being too conservative with the lead?

Maybe we should have been more hard on Rhule.

Maybe your brand new offense needed more snaps under game conditions in the preseason. That way timing and execution could be better.

I can definitely get behind this idea.  I realize they were trying to limit exposure given the 17 game season, but we certainly didn't look fully "ready" on offense.  Defense always starts faster than offense and all that.

They'll get the benefit of the doubt when they actually win something in our division.

Has nothing to do with benefit of the doubt. You all are bitching about 'trends' when you have one game to go on. The steaming, hot, shitty takes you guys are making on this board days after a win are hilarious, but also exhaustingly dumb.

Actually the redzone woes were present throughout last season too so that is a trend that has followed us into this year unfortunately and remains a thorn in our side until shown otherwise. Hopefully they show much better results against the Saints.

    • Yeah they were bad QBs - but QB's that stayed on their teams for several years.  BY is better than all of those.
    • This is the right move even if you think Bryce isn't the future. Everything except signing him to a long term deal until proven otherwise. There's a decent chance we have a shot to draft a QB next year that we like.
    • If we're still bad enough that Canales gets fired, especially if it's during the season, there is no way we could ever attract any HC worthy of the job if we told them they had to keep Bryce their first year. That would be 2 coaches he's gotten fired and 4 years of not performing up to par. I still say replace both of them next offseason.  I like Canales the man and I think he's done an absolutely outstanding job at fixing our locker room issues, as it was really bad before he showed up.  But I just don't see it from him with his in game decision making, I think he's held us back just as much as Bryce has, just in different ways. Canales was our Dan Campbell, the coach you hire to turn the franchises culture around for the HC after them to inherit and take to the next level.   The difference was he had some elite coordinators early on and really let him focus on his "leader of men" role as opposed to the X's and O's that Canales does himself and it's turned out well for him.
