As someone who was definitely against the signing, this is true. If he can maintain this higher level of play for the bulk of the season, then it's reasonable to think he can improve even further in future seasons.

I am still wary of proclaiming him "the answer" this early in. I didn't forget last season where Teddy ripped off three straight wins early in the year and the same jumping to conclusions was made. Or when Kyle Allen was ripping off 5 straight wins.

He doesn't concern me as much as they did in the "eye test" category like Teddy and Allen did.

For me he doesn't have to be the answer, he just doesn't have to be the reason as in the reason we are losing games.  Anything beyond that is gravy on top.

Cautiously optimistic but it's still early.  I remember some people around here reacting similarly to Teddy early last year. Let's see how teams adjust, and I definitely think Matt and Joe are keeping things very simply for him so far to try and build confidence. Sunday could get very interesting. If it turns into a shootout, will Sam be good enough to keep us in a game like that until the end?

I think the key will be Sam moving the chains like he has and getting the team into position near the redzone.

He's capable of doing that but it needs to result in a TD whether it's through his passing or his legs.

If there's a shootout, it's TD or bust 'cause FGs won't cut it.

I agree. There’s a few things he did with the jets that he still needs to clean up. The not seeing wide open receivers downfield is a concern. He might be going through his reads too quickly as a result of nerves from the horrid Oline play he’s always dealt with. If he can get that fixed and take a little better care of the football, look out, he might evolve into a top tier QB.

Yeah, I suppose that is true. If he can be a good game manager, then that serves the purpose we probably need for him.

It will do for now. Finding that long term "franchise qb" so many teams are looking for is very rare. I'm not sure what one looks like anymore to be honest.  I will take anyone average and above myself.

We could be in so much worse shape with the starting qb position. I think that a lot on here are missing that fact.

Now backup on the other hand...

Let's not go there.

I don't think it's a case of him not seeing wide open receivers downfield.   I think it's because he knows, sadly, the "capabilities" of the O-Line in front of him so he has to work a bit more quickly than normal so he doesn't get decapitated.

Otherwise, he would've had time to look down the field for Robbie or something.

Eh, little early for a definitive statement but very promising so far. Of note to me is that he's consistently looking better than he did in NY (still some hiccups of course) while Teddy looked exactly how he always has during those first games last year.

I bring this up because the staff is the common denominator. Getting improved performance like this is a big plus IMO.

Which is the mark of a good QB. Teddy felt pressure, he threw it away.

He’s honestly played about what I expected. Said he’d have statistically the best year he’s ever had because of Brady’s system. The thing that surprised me is he took over that Texans game when I legitimately thought he’d fall apart when cmc went down. He made big time throws in big time moments. Those off platform throws were throws I knew he was capable of but not in those moments where it’s needed. He’s trending up for sure.

That said he needs to stop fumbling the damn ball in the pocket. He’s holding onto the ball with one hand instead of two. I’m not sure if this is something that can be fixed in year 4 and he never sensed those rushers which is concerning to me.

I really hope that the focus during these 10 days is Ball Security for Sam 'cause aside from that, he's done pretty well.

    • The answer here is easy...if he can play at least eight games like already did against Green Bay--a playoff team--that would be a good sign to me. He doesn't need to show that he can do any one thing, but he needs to show that he can be consistent in playing at a high level.
    • Maybe I haven't kept up, but how do we know he set our to deceive in order to keep his stock high? That's a strong character-indicting accusation. Especially when it's not all that different than what others have done in the past. The only potentially eyebrow-raising is not being weighed again. Otherwise, he didn't do anything in the draft process that others haven't done and won't do in the future. In fact, the fact that he put all his eggs in the basket of his own pro day (which he didn't look great at) actively opposes the idea of setting out to deceive.
