Panther Trade Rumors

I've seen comparisons to the previous regime, which I don't see. Fitt is constantly improving this team. Yes, I admit  the offensive line was overlooked yet again,  for whatever reason. I can only assume that they felt it was good enough to fit their offensive strategy. But at least they're still looking to improve it.

This roster had some many holes that it was silly.  You cannot reasonably expect the front office to fix every single issue with our roster in 1 off season, can you?  And its not like they didn't sign and draft people...its just that the people they did pick up have not exactly worked out.  Still wondering though how come we have not looked into Mitchell Schwartz or Russ Okung yet.  But I have confidence in our leadership that they see the problem and will do absolutely everything in their power to fix it.

I specifically remember that CB was a serious need in the draft and I assume the Panthers thought Horn was a better player than someone like Slater.  Our secondary looks good now but didn’t then.  Horn definitely looked the part pre injury

We want to win now obviously but too many holes to fill atp.  We need another offseason and maybe more

The problem with this premise is that it assumes there were legit options available with our salary cap constraints.  I hear you regarding injuries, I really do.  But peruse this list for a bit and be terrified:

https://walterfootball.com/freeagents2021G.php

I know, Walter football, they suck.  But it's just a list.  Hard to get that wrong.  The point is that as you read thru that list you see a lot of "wouldn't have cut him if he didn't have injury issues" or "dubious injury history" or "coming off a knee injury".

And even if Walter isn't that great, they had John Miller - yes, our John Miller - as the 13th rated free agent at Guard.  They had Chris Reed - yes, our Chris Reed - as the 15th rated Guard.

It was just a scary and awful offseason to need IOL.  Look at the list man.  Who do you think we should have tried to sign?

I wouldn't have had issues with the signings had we signed them for at or near vet min after the primary wave of FA was over. That's how you sign those caliber of FAs. Reed signed for one year $1.1M with less than $200k guaranteed. We signed Elflein for three years  $13.5M with $6M guaranteed. That's a massive difference for similar caliber talents.

Agreed. Don't mind the players but the contracts were baffling especially considering it was day 1. I think the plan was to have Irving and Elfein start this year and rotate into a backup role or move Elfein to center after Paradis but that isn't looking so good right now.

Yeah I have more of an issue with the manner in which we signed who we did vs who we actually signed as well given what was available.  For as apparently calculated as this FO has been to this point these particular signings just smack of "poo our OL is awful" desperation - throw poo at the wall and see what sticks.  I dislike that approach on so many levels, even if I get the mindset behind it.

Not like we could not do anything but jeez...it looks bad looking back on it.

Maybe John Miller is going to go super saiyan after he gets beat up enough.  I can dream...

I wonder if Miller and Daley are really as bad as they seem

paradis is our problem….this guy totally sucks…and he is a captain!

I think they're probably all slightly better than they look (very, very slightly).  But if you put three black holes of suck next to each other they just exponentially increase the suck.

Chris Reed look pretty good fir the Colt the other night they even mention that on the broadcast. They should have signed Joe Thuney and Drafted Slater in the first

Ah, so we should have spent more than 80 million on an IOL?  The guy was a Patriot - part of a perennial winner.  He went to the Chiefs, another team that has become a perennial contender.  What on EARTH makes anyone think we could have gotten him to come here.  For us to sign Thuney, we would have probably needed to offer 18 million a year over 5 years.  That's nutso money for IOL.

It does point out just how difficult last offseason was.  Thuney was really the only guy at guard you could look at and go "Yea, he's a lock to be good".

I really wanted an OT in the first round! When Sewell was picked I was deflated. Then I thought for sure Fitty would draft Slater. NOPE a CB. So, I thought, ok there are some good linemen left in the 2nd round. NOPE a WR! We already had DJ and Robby! This team has been absolutely awful on the Oline for years! If we had a good Oline we would have won the Super Bowl in 2015. I’m just sick of it!

Have you noticed how Sewell is playing lately?

Slater was the real loss here.

I would’ve liked to have Sewell back in April but wasn’t never a fan of him in pass protection. He was known as a young kid who was athletic and played with a mean streak. He is great pulling out and leading the way in open field for his running back at Oregon. He needs to move inside to guard.

I'm not sure where you got the impression that I implied that our FO could fix everything in one season, but I a agree with the rest. I don't think that Okung played very much when he was here due to injuries.

How did you know they would be available to sign at vet minimum after the first wave of FA?  Do you assume we were the only team interested in them and we had the luxury of waiting them out to get them at vet minimum?

    • Went to school in MD when this came out. Dance floor got CRAZY when this joint came on!
    • They had best show out in Week 1 there are zero,I mean zero,  excuses for that offense  defense, haven’t play together yet and they still have Mr Soft and Predictable as DC  I expect break downs at times  …but that offense returns all starters except Tremble and both Mayes and Brady are veterans and can play LG and know the system not up for any participation awards this season they can save that practice energy for Jacksonville.     I’m sick of the, winning,  or looking competitive, when it doesn’t matter.
    • There are some tough decisions that I'm eager to see the results of... Does Blackshear sneak on to the roster as RB4? Does the team go with 4 TEs or just 3 again? And has Mitchell Evans done enough to defend his roster spot from James Mitchell? Who is WR6 and is there a WR7? TMac, XL, Coker, and AT seem to be locks imo and I'm assuming Renfrow also makes it due to all of the camp praise. Who makes it between Brycen Tremayne, Jimmy Horn Jr, and David Moore? If the team goes with 7 WRs, which one of those three doesn't make it? Jacolby George and Emani Bailey both have not gotten a lot of game time. Could the Panthers be trying to hide them so that they can be stashed on the PS? Do they go with 10 OL instead of 9? Who makes it out of Walton, Carter, and Kingston? DL locks are DB, BB3, ARob, and Turk. That leaves Jaden Crumedy, Cam Jackson, Sam Roberts, Shy Tuttle, and LaBryan Ray all competing for the final 1 - 3 spots. Does DJ Johnson get IR'd and Thomas Incoom make the roster as EDGE5? What in the fuuuuuuuuuuuuck is going to happen at LB? Only locks seem to be Wallace, Rozeboom, and Cherelus (Wallace has mentioned in media how Cherelus has been big bro for him on the team). Rhattigan had some good moments against Houston, Martin-Scott is an SC guy, Krys Barnes has popped on defense and on special teams, and Windmon got time starting for the team last season. Are two of those guys going to make it or are the Panthers poaching from another team's cuts? CB5... who is it? Do they go with the 4 expected safeties or bring in a 5th? Has Ransom done enough to take the start from Nick Scott?
