Panthers WRs had the 6th most catchable drops by a team the last decade

After putting the game nearly out of reach with an opening pick, a fumble, and several erratic throws yes he did throw one TD at the end to tie it up against an average Vikings team (due to a blocked punt) which still ended up a loss. I guess he is fully redeemed then?  How did he do the previous 2 games?

Darnold rallied the team from being down two scores... That's after the D gave up 16 points... Including after what should have been a momentum swinging special teams play...

As to the fumble that luckily led to no points... The fumble was on the OL.  Darnold certainly has many failings and his first int was on him, but not all fumbles are on QBs.

Darnold wasn't good but boy did he have a ton of help this week in that loss. If our D gets one more stop...

So many people entering with a conclusion they want a proof for, seeking confirming evidence, then shutting it down to do a victory lap.

And Christ almighty there are options here other than "Sam is THE FRANCHISE BABYYYYYYYYY" and "This kid is the root of all the ails us".  Every time someone defends Sam in any way (like saying he doesn't deserve all or even most of the blame for that poo show Sunday) the gang all comes around to lecture about how he does in fact deserve some blame.  I honestly can't remember the last time someone said he didn't deserve any blame.

*edit in anticipation of "we're just talkin' football broski"*

You think Sam is at fault for the receivers dropping balls?

All of them? Nope.

Do I think the balls he threw were a contributing factor on some.  Yes.   Probably 3 of them.

And I often applied a similar concept when it came to Cam.  Who is tied for my favorite Panther of all time.

I agree and I am not a Darnold apologist. I think that the guy played a decent game other than the Int.
The timeout was called because Erickson didn’t know where to lineup and the clock was running out. Sam didn’t realize that you cannot call back to back timeouts.

The main issue with this team is the sub par play of the Oline, followed by Darnolds 3 Ints last week in one game. Other than that he has played almost exactly as I expected that he would.

Sam played terrible at times.  The first play was bad and the offense never really recovered.  It was hard to tell who sucked the most between the bad play of everyone.

The play calling was confusing and the run game was ignored when it shouldn't have been.  How do you know if it was a bad read, bad play call or blown assignment with all the disfunction going on?  Looks to me that it's all of the above.

Don't get me started on the turnovers.

I'm calling bullshit on that one.  But go ahead with that.  It's crap and you know it.

I know and in my humble opinion Sam was like 6th down on the list of issues from yesterdays game.
My list would be

Drops

OC

Defense

Fumbles

HC not communicating to OC to run the ball more

Sam

You are just biased and blind and that's ok.

so what is a 50/50 ball?  Catchable or uncatchable?

my understanding was it is deemed a catchable ball.  Who wins wouldn’t determine if the ball is catchable would it?

I mean the WRs didn’t have good day.  No doubt.  They didn’t do him any favors.  They need to make some of those.  I just don’t think Sam had a  very good day either despite that.

and specifically Robby.  I can cut DJ a little slack given how well he has played on the year and the load he is carrying in the pass game.

If you include all of the 50/50 balls in the game yesterday plus all of the ones actually caught plus the ones that were dropped you would have a lot more than 25. There were at least 5 or 6 drops of balls where the receiver was all alone and just dropped it or it bounced off him. With all the tight coverage yesterday just about every ball was a 50/50 ball and we really didn't win many of those.  So I can't  see that they made all of those considered catchable or the number would have been higher.

I would put him somewhere in the top 3 until the last drive.

I assure you I am not blind.

but I have never claimed to be unbiased.

Sam and Robby catch heat from me pretty easy.  As does Rhule.  I am self aware of that.

That's kind of odd to say because the offense came right back and got a TD(Chuba's TD run) immediately after the "D"-fense, in one of its few moments that it actually played defense, forced a turnover.

If you're saying that the offense still couldn't recover mentally from Sam's INT even after coming right back and getting a TD to even take the lead, then there are bigger problems than just "Sam's Fault" going on here.   🤔

I don't believe you are blind either.

I do think you have your mind made up on things and that's okay.

I'm not here to convince you I am right nor should you try to convince me that you're right.

It's called having our own opinions on things and believing they're the correct ones.

Besides, it gives us something to do before watching more of the Carnage next Sunday.

Maybe we should do a Prediction on the number of times Robby drops a pass and see who wins?   LOL!

I'm saying the offense never really got in a rhythm.  Even on the TD drive it was ugly.  The turnovers deep in our own territory put the defense in bad situations.  It was just a cluster fug all around.

When Sam was on the mark the receiver would drop it.  Everyone shares blame for the disaster we saw yesterday.  If even a few of those plays were made it would have been an entirely different game despite all of that.

    • They made sure to not give him any competition at QB with that lame ass UDFA selection. I swear they pick the tallest shittiest qb's in camp to make it look like height is not the problem lol
