Steve Smith Sr on Baker Mayfield

Smitty will not keep his job long dissing players like that.  These networks are promoting the product, not trashing it.  Not to say that you cannot have valid criticism, but base it on something tangible.

Smitty gets all the breaks.  When it rains, he is the last person to get wet.

Baker rides the coattail of great running game, good defense, he can't win you a game

I like the fact that he called out Mayfield...and hes prolly right. Mayfield making too many ***** commercials....get ur azz in the film room and be great...Hope Browns don't over pay for that little drama queen....but they don't have much choice... Stefanski , Mayfield and OC all have a part in not getting OBJ the ball. Wonder what they were seeing...

Telling the truth as a former HOF caliber player as a sports commentator is a dick move...it's some soft ass ppl out here.

It's not being soft. Commentators and hopeful HOFers  say dick ish or do dick ish all the time, just like the rest of us. Nothing soft about calling out a dick moment. Get over it tough guy.

Plus I'm not going to talk bad about agent89.

Yeah, that's the most disturbing part. You have some Panthers fans here who cheered 89 on plenty a day, and as soon as he left they immediately started talking poo about him, and continue to.

I'm not saying Smith is an alter boy, but people need to keep this sh¡t in perspective. Mayfield is being paid millions of dollars to be great, and wants millions more, but his play hasn't warranted elite level money. I wouldn't say he s been "bad", but he just hasn't been good on a consistent enough basis. But if Smitty thinks he's been "bad", so the fu<k what! Everyone has their opinion. Calling Mayfield out for his play is certainly not worth all the little snide, petty, and decidedly personal remarks against who is perhaps the best player in Panthers franchise history. Smitty didn't kill anyone here, he gave an opinion.

When a QB makes better commercials than his play on the football field, there is an issue.

Smitty was right yalll just in yall feelings

Baker is trash and but yall wanna hate a HOF player because you think you right lol

I don’t think the argument is Baker doesn’t deserve legit criticism.

but that isn’t what 89 was actually doing.   Again, 89 was talking about OBJ.   And if you want to talk about why OBJ was in Clev to begin with and is now out…..well that largely is a OBJ discussion.  Baker a side note.   But crickets from 89 actually on OBJ.

Baker is still on a rookie deal.  He actually isn’t being paid to be great right now.  OBJ is paid to be great.  Which he isn’t.  He isn’t a great NFL WR.  He is just a talented guy.

and if it is all a Baker problem, why is it just OBJ that stands out as not working?  Goes back IMO to why he ended up Clev to begin with

The commercials aren’t an issue. It’s like a hour or two of recording for one day probably in the offseason. Most young players will pounce on an opportunity for that kind of cash for so little work. Baker struggled when he had a bad line and coaching staff. They fixed both the offseason before last and he has been solid since. Their new coach likes a run first offense and they have a stable of running backs. That hurts players like OBJ that are deep threats.

    • Went to school in MD when this came out. Dance floor got CRAZY when this joint came on!
    • They had best show out in Week 1 there are zero,I mean zero,  excuses for that offense  defense, haven’t play together yet and they still have Mr Soft and Predictable as DC  I expect break downs at times  …but that offense returns all starters except Tremble and both Mayes and Brady are veterans and can play LG and know the system not up for any participation awards this season they can save that practice energy for Jacksonville.     I’m sick of the, winning,  or looking competitive, when it doesn’t matter.
    • There are some tough decisions that I'm eager to see the results of... Does Blackshear sneak on to the roster as RB4? Does the team go with 4 TEs or just 3 again? And has Mitchell Evans done enough to defend his roster spot from James Mitchell? Who is WR6 and is there a WR7? TMac, XL, Coker, and AT seem to be locks imo and I'm assuming Renfrow also makes it due to all of the camp praise. Who makes it between Brycen Tremayne, Jimmy Horn Jr, and David Moore? If the team goes with 7 WRs, which one of those three doesn't make it? Jacolby George and Emani Bailey both have not gotten a lot of game time. Could the Panthers be trying to hide them so that they can be stashed on the PS? Do they go with 10 OL instead of 9? Who makes it out of Walton, Carter, and Kingston? DL locks are DB, BB3, ARob, and Turk. That leaves Jaden Crumedy, Cam Jackson, Sam Roberts, Shy Tuttle, and LaBryan Ray all competing for the final 1 - 3 spots. Does DJ Johnson get IR'd and Thomas Incoom make the roster as EDGE5? What in the fuuuuuuuuuuuuck is going to happen at LB? Only locks seem to be Wallace, Rozeboom, and Cherelus (Wallace has mentioned in media how Cherelus has been big bro for him on the team). Rhattigan had some good moments against Houston, Martin-Scott is an SC guy, Krys Barnes has popped on defense and on special teams, and Windmon got time starting for the team last season. Are two of those guys going to make it or are the Panthers poaching from another team's cuts? CB5... who is it? Do they go with the 4 expected safeties or bring in a 5th? Has Ransom done enough to take the start from Nick Scott?
