What has Cam done?

The Question

I used to think it was just being un vaccinated and that he'd really take a role as a backup as to why he didn't have a job earlier ... But if that's true... Why doesn't NE bring him back?  l think it's because even though he says he'd be a backup *he* thinks he'd still be a distraction whether he would be or not... Because unfortunately maybe he would be.

I mean we are talking about the guy that made a video interview with his dad after he was released... I dunno... I think that kinda thing is a turnoff to FOs and coaches, whether it should be or not.

I think next year he'll get a shot to compete in camp though.

I think he is too strong of a personality to be a backup. Cam is an alpha on the field and he just isn’t good enough to be a starter anymore (aside from our team, but we burned that bridge). Plus he would have to learn a playbook mid season. At this point most teams are rolling with what they have either to the playoffs or for development of the team. Only lower tier FAs will be signed as backups to fill roster spots like a Barkley.

One game. I followed the Patriots last year and was on their message boards monitoring the fans, they were ready for cam to be gone. He was throwing passes into the dirt like never before.

you cannot present a logical argument to an emotional question

i’m not sure why people would rather finish 5-12 maybe 6-11 instead of 4-13 by signing someone like cam…

look at the remaining schedule, assuming cam and this putrid team can win 2 more, i am being very generous

draft pick is far more important right now and so is any money to sign cam, or any shitty qb, it is better rolled over

time to stop with the moral victories that have already cost us so much, wish this FO would just face facts for once and realize we have to pay our dues during rebuild time like everyone else and stop trying to find shortcuts, we have given up enough already

i am not saying purposely tank but stop spending so many resources trying to find a short cut fix…roll with the mistakes and reap really the only benefit losing has instead of throwing that away too

This.

Panthers are going nowhere this year.  A potential win or two more with Cam isn't going to turn this team around and make them into playoff contenders.

It's pretty likely that it will only take 9 wins gets the 7-seed. So a few wins might be enough.

Although I think a different QB may have yielded a 9 win season, I just don't see that happening over our remaining schedule... With the options available I don't see us getting 5 more wins this year personally.

    • Just another 1st round QB that never paid off for the team that drafted them or traded for them. It's been like this since the SB began. 36 QBs have now won the SB & only 13 of them have been 1st rounders winning with their original team. Namath 1968, Griese 1972, Bradshaw 1974, McMahon 1985, Simms 1986, Aikman 1992, Elway 1997, Roethlisberger 2005, P.Manning 2006, E.Manning 2007, Rodgers 2010, Flacco 2012, & Mahomes 2019. Only 3 have taken longer than 5 seasons as the starter to win a SB.  4  6  5  4  6  4  15  2  9  4  3  5  2 [the years it takes for these 1st round QBs] 5  1  4  1  3  1  1  2  3  4  [10 of the 36 have won a chip with their 1st team that haven't been drafted in the 1st round. These are the years it took them as a starter] What stands out? Only 2 of these QBs have lost their first championship appearance. Elway took 4 years as a 1st rounder & Hurts took 2 years as a 2nd rounder. Of the 10 non-1st round QBs, 2 are 2nd rounders, 3 are 3rd rounders, 5 are 6th rounders or later. Please stop wasting time on drafting 1st round QBs with such a high failure rate. The remaining 13 QBs are traded or free agent signings. Stafford, Favre, Young, Williams and Dawson are the 5 trades. Peyton Manning & Tom Brady also won for teams as free agents on a short stay as well as being drafted. The lesson here is don't waste your franchise on farming up 1st rounders for the league, and steer clear of trading for a franchise QB. Stick to finding that championship QB by drafting them outside of the 1st round or through free agency.
    • I lost most of the respect I had for Fox in 2010. He should have resigned if he hated the job that much. Instead he stuck for his paycheck and let stuff go to hell.    I burned out on Ron too but my deal breaker issue with him was away from football and after he was gone from the Panthers. He may have been out of his depth but never quit on us.
    • From where they were one year ago to now, pretty incredible. I mean, say what you want about Vrabel he is no Jerrod Mayo.
