PJ has been on min Salary 800k range coming off the XFL.

5 mil is a stretch.  But he has started a game or 2. So could easily see him want 2-3 mil.  for Example Blaine Gabbert is getting 2.5 mil this year.
Especially if we don’t sign anyone else and is looked as The guy to come in and bridge for someone else.

Let him test the market elsewhere see what he gets. If he gets 2-3 good for him.

Here's a summary of the Offense currently under contract for the upcoming season.

QB needs something to be optimistic about.

RB is fine. I'd love to bring back Abdullah or get another RB that can catch.

FB/TE is fine for the current offense.

WR looks solid. Bring in some camp bodies or late round fliers to fill out the back end.

OL is probably not going to be as different as many would hope. There isn't much to be saved by cutting any of the OL and top end talent rarely hits FA. I'd suspect if the team were to go FA shopping it'd be at G or C. Best hope is to bring in a talented Rookie or two to push some of the existing guys down the pecking order.

Point is.

unless we bring back Cam or someone on his level.  PJ will be brought in as a legit candidate to start,  and he won’t be getting less than a Blaine Gabbert.

What is his talent? What has he done to merit even a mention of a GM job? Almost every move has been a poor cap decision. His exact responsibility. Now, no one may be listening too him, but he hasn’t done anything at his current or former job to warrant this kind of attention.

He was with the Steelers for years. This is just where we are as an organization. No one is really knocked for their work with us because who could possibly succeed in this dumpster fire? That's the sad reality. They'll be looking at what he did in a real NFL organization, not here.

Beane sat here while Hurney made idiotic move after idiotic move but the rest of the NFL knew he was a future GM.

So this means if they tender him, if a team wants him they would have to give a second rounder?

Correct.

If he gets a 2nd round tender it's ~$3.5M. If a team were to sign him (and the Panthers refused to match) they'd get a 2nd in the current draft.

Original round tender is cheaper, but PJ wasn't drafted.

You are assuming Rhule is still around in that scenario and even if he is, we already know Tepper is not gonna be satisfied with the Darnolds and PJ’s. PJ is RFA so let him see if he can get a “high” offer, if now low ball him.

All that I don’t see us not resigning Cam unless Tepper is assured a draft pick QB.

Everything you say is true, but no one is going to give a second round pick for a backup QB.  I can't think of a team that would consider him as a starter, so that seems equally unlikely.

Would you be optimistic about Kenny Pickett?

Disagree on fullback. I think we need a true sledgehammer blocking fullback on the roster (but I'm old school).

I see your point but he’s never been more than a calculator for the Steelers. No decisions. No scouting.  No one worried he’s gone.

FYI on Suleiman: there's been some speculation he might get a GM job this offseason.

Actually, if Suleiman is considered a minority, we would get two compensatory picks were he to be hired as a GM.  Apparently the NFL passed a resolution last year for that.

    • To kick this up, The Athletic has a really comprehensive piece out where pretty much all QB questions are addressed. It is worth seeing.  https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7083539/2026/03/04/starting-quarterback-projections-free-agency-draft/?source=user_shared_article I’m putting something specific here but it should have a thread or something. It is an extensive exercise.  This is a dense write up with a lot of column inches used, about the Jets and Murray and Reich, all this stuff.. then it goes to backup QB and there is Dalton.  I am pasting that part: As for Dalton, Reich is installing the offense he was trying to run in Carolina in 2023 before he got fired, and Dalton was with the Panthers then; he’s an ideal option as a veteran backup to replace Taylor. Reich said this about Dalton in 2023: “The way he's throwing the football, the way he works through progressions, the way he handles the operation. … Since day one (when) he walked in the door, I'm like, 'This guy is starter-worthy.' You guys know I've said that all along. He's, in my opinion, one of the best 32 quarterbacks in the world.” ——— That’s true love lol. I never heard any of this. Pretty crazy I think, considering how the year went.   Anyway the dream is not dead. .
    • The Seahawks traded for wide receiver/returner Rashid Shaheed at the trade deadline. He proved to be a key acquisition. Shaheed returned a punt and a kickoff for touchdowns in the regular season and had a 95-yard kickoff return in the postseason. Shaheed, though, is scheduled for free agency. So, the 12 games he played, including the postseason, might be the extent of his time in Seattle. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Shaheed and the Seahawks are not close to an extension, and the expectation is that the two-time Pro Bowler will hit free agency. Shaheed has 153 receptions for 2,243 yards and 12 touchdowns in his four-year career to go along with three punt return touchdowns and a kickoff return touchdown. He ranks 13th on PFT’s top-100 free agents. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/report-rashid-shaheed-appears-headed-to-free-agency
