i mean they literally need SOMEONE to do the job right now

they're not bringing anyone from outside the organization in at this point to run someone else's offense

So, assuming Rhule is retained, you have to convince a qualified outside candidate to come to a staff on a very hot seat...

Yeah, it’s bizarre that people think you’re going to get a qualified OC candidate to come here with 5 games in 5 weeks. What an awful way to show you can do the job and how would you hire someone for multiple years? Of course someone from within would become the interim OC. SMH, it’s not complicated.

Yeah, I think you guys are misunderstanding... it ain't the fact that Rhule promoted from within, its the fact that he YET AGAIN goes the nepotism route.

As I pointed out previously, Sean Ryan also doesn't have OC experience, but he *does* have 14 consecutive years of experience coaching offense at the NFL level.  The choice as to who to temporarily promote (the experienced quarterbacks coach in a quarterback-driven league) was a no-brainer here.

But Rhule chose to go with his college buddy.  THAT is the issue being criticized here, not promotion from the current staff.

I understand but it’s interim. For some reason we have a worry about 5 games letting a guy be an interim OC over a guy who’s never been an OC before and to be honest hasn’t really shown he’s a great QB reclamation guy. Has Ryan done so well this year that we should be annoyed?

I get it, its interim... in the big scheme of this dumpster fire it really isn't a big deal.  I agree.

I just think its just another clear and discouraging signal by Rhule of his continued pattern of decision making, i.e. "doubling down", that has been failing this organization for almost two years now.

It isn’t that we expected bill Walsh part  2 to come replace Brady. People are pissed about the lack of depth and experience on this staff.  The “next man up” is another asshole buddy of our coach and another guy who has no business on an nfl staff. This whole thing needs to be burned down.

    • I honestly can’t believe this team’s turnaround this season. It’s surreal. Figured healthy we’d be fringe playoffs and with another lottery pick could finally turn the corner, but we don’t even need that. This group is ready. We haven’t played remotely well the last 5 games and yet still blew out 5 bad teams by 16+ each game like it was casual practice. We had a few solid teams with Kemba and Big Al but this is easily our best group since the original Hornets moved to NO. Man, what a shift in culture this new ownership group and front office has brought. So damn happy to see it after years of suffering and consistently meaningless games in this stretch of previous seasons.   Only 2.5 games out of the 6 seed, although Miami, Atlanta and Orlando have been playing well too. Gonna be a fun final stretch, hopefully we can get a top 8 seed at the very least. Celtics tomorrow will be a good test. Would be huge to keep the road winning streak up against a very hot top team on the 2nd half of a back to back. We’ve played Boston pretty well the last few years with much of this same group despite sucking so I do feel pretty good about it. Kon is due for a huge game coming off a few cold shooting games (although despite the poor shooting he’s been contributing well with defense, assists and rebounds).
    • It amazes me how underrated Horn has become after he finally was able to stay on the field. Sure last year wasn’t perfect but he was still a huge reason for our rebound defensively and I’d say he’s easily a top 10 corner. You don’t want to see Mike Jackson as our top corner. Any player is available for the right price but I’d be extremely hesitant to move Horn even for a big haul from LA.
