Zach Cunningham Released

Former Texans linebacker who used to be one of the more highly regarded linebackers in the league. He’s only 26 and would be cheap to claim if we could get him. We desperately need some depth at LB honestly could move Carter back to a backup role where he’s more suited.

Cunningham will go on waivers where teams, in order of worst record to best, will have the opportunity to claim him at the rate of his current contract; $900,000 for the remainder of the season. It is likely that he goes unclaimed and becomes an unrestricted free agent eligible to sign with any team he chooses. Houston is on the hook for a roughly $12.8 million salary cap hit next season as a result of the move.

If that were Rhule he would have talked about how great Cunningham is playing and how he’s really been stepping up to help the team in this tough situation only to cut his ass the next day.

Just two bad coaches coaching bad teams who probably should have never been hired as head coaches to begin with.

Gotta love the NFL.

My thought process every time I see one of these stories...

"Wow, a good player is available!" 😀

"Wait...why?" 🤔

Lately my thought process is...

"A potentially great player was troubled on a bad, rudderless team? If he comes to a tight ship like the Panthers I bet he'll have the chance to shine!" 😀

"Oh, wait." 😐

    • Honestly, it only makes sense if you're trying to chase being the best bad team you can be this year. The number one question we need answered this season is whether or not Bryce is our long-term franchise QB. Trading away a second year WR who was second on the team in catch percentage, first in yards per target, and who clearly outplayed your 1st round pick for a likely one year rental fill in LB is exactly the type of short sighted desperation moves that has made us the worst franchise in the league under Tepper. We gotta stop making these types of moves and just focus on building a good organization and a good roster. Lloyd is a JAG LB another bad team and awful defense is wavering on and a couple of Panthers fans are salivating over him. Oof. We just need to be patient and wait. Definitely make some calls around the league to teams deep at LB and see if there's an opportunity to add one for a late round pick. Definitely shop the waiver wire hard. The reality is that LB is almost certainly going to be a weakness for us this year. We weren't fixing our entire roster in one off-season and we're not fixing an overall weak positional group in late July.  If you trade for Lloyd LB is still a weakness and you've given up a young promising WR who could potentially help you answer the question of whether or not Bryce is that guy. That's bad football business.
    • I think it's because we've had a player to hate on NO (Breese) and Atl (Ryan) while Tampa had Winston who was never really a threat or dislikable like the other 2
    • yeah. it was also reported that Brown was taking it light today because of oblique soreness. Sounds like the 2 of them were a bit too rough with each other for practice.
