Mike Florio: Could Jim Harbaugh be an option

Attention Matt Rhule defenders, a turnaround can happen quickly, even with a college coach.

What if other NFL teams, like Carolina, get in on the Harbaugh action? Or how about the Bears, the team that made Harbaugh a first-round draft choice 35 years ago? Sure, he tends to wear out his welcome. But he’s effective. And his seven years at Michigan suggest that he has indeed matured and grown and learned how not to need to leave town after four years.

Money always talks. The question is how loudly it may scream from an NFL team that is willing to blow the curve on getting a former college coach who, unlike Rhule and Urban Meyer, knows how to thrive at the professional level.

I was banging the table for Harbaugh back when everyone knew he was leaving Stanford.  I'm sure he still would've ended up leaving like he did with SF, but he is proven on both levels.  He knows how to excel at the pro level and what it takes - both from a coach's and a player's perspective.

I wouldn't be mad at all if we went that direction.  I prefer a young offensive-minded coordinator already in the NFL, but Harbaugh wouldn't be a bad hire at all.  In fact, he likely would be the best coach we ever had to this point.

Harbaugh would be an improvement over the current coaching staff but I don’t love it. Doug Pederson or Matt Eberflus are my first choices

I wouldn’t mind Pederson, IF, either fitts get most of the control on roster or we get a serious high powered GM.

Don’t see it happening.

While Jim has proven he can coach in the NFL….hard to follow up a Rhule shitshow by bringing in a a guy who has a history of being a problematic HC.

Harbaugh has massive red flags.   You part with a winning HC for very few reasons.

He could be a Pete Carroll type:   a former NFL coach turned college coach that finally becomes a successful NFL coach.

Harbaugh does bring many years of NFL experience as a player to the table.  That's definitely worth something.

4 seasons in the NFL and he never had a losing record as a HC.

he lost his job because he is batshit crazy.

    • You bring up a good point on the stability part and i would agree that probably will factor into it. But yes, Tepper does have a strong influence on who stays/goes but I still believe ultimately it'is Morgan, Tilis and Canales who will decide.
    • I can always count on yout to put things so delicately lol. I'm still not sold on the fact that Tepper will make them keep him if they don't see him as a long term answer.
    • holy poo... this thread inspired me to keep trying to guess passwords to various alts I've created over the years and I finally got in! I pretty much accepted my fate as a lurker for the last several months because I could not remember my password. I didn't realize that new users couldn't join either, that explains things. I have been around for years under several different monikers, through the good and bad. I too always find myself coming back here even with all of the new social media options for Panther fan engagement. It's simply nostalgic.   I do get extremely annoyed with the same 5-10 posters shitting on Bryce and complaining about everything. It's unfortunate that half of them are mods and that nobody new can join because now I pretty much just come on here and see Bryce / Panther slander. There is barely any positivity to be had. We all watch this team and hang on this forum for entertainment purposes only. We have no control or say in anything. I used to be such a crazy ass fan that would argue with strangers about Cam newton on the internet and at games. Now, as a father of 3, a business owner and someone with way gnarlier life problems - I like to watch football and talk about football as an escape. Not to bitch more. I really like the direction of the team and will root anyone in a Panthers jersey. I live down the street from the Rams practice facility, Matthew Stafford is currently coaching his daughters flag football team in the same program I coach my sons. I have two highly ranked Rams staff members sons on my team. The way we beat them and had them on the ropes in the playoffs has me feeling amazing, and you would think we have the next great thing in Bryce with the way they all speak of him. I'm gonna ride that high and be a delusional fan, I hope that huddle can stick around or get fixed and perhaps I will get back to posting more now that I can log in again. I will do my best to not get banned. Keep Pounding!
