Very true, but it was completely unnecessary to say in that interview. It was essentially doubling down on their initial (wrong) assessment of his skillset, which not only makes him look bad, it makes the scouting look incompetent. "Didn't want to draft a guard that high" Implies they would have played him out of position had they actually drafted him instead of sticking him at LT where he has shown out. It basically says what they did to BC this season, they would have done to Slater too, and that just makes them look foolish.

He could have avoided the ire by saying, "Slater is a great player too, he was on our board but we just had Jaycee Higher."

That's it. that's all he had to say.

Yeah the thing is everyone makes mistakes in the draft.  But not everyone tries to make it sound like they actually weren't wrong etc.  It's okay to like one player over another but you don't need to come off like an idiot in saying that.  Horn may very well be a better pick long-term. That will never justify rhules comments lol

But would he have been as good with the Panthers? Maybe they would have played him at LG instead of his ideal location. Or maybe they would have played Slater in a different position every week. Brady was played in 4-different positions this year. Nobody could be successful like that.
I still think one of the reasons (certainly not the only) the Oline was bad was due to a bad scheme. A bad scheme makes even the best players look bad. The entire offense was terrible and out of sink.

Right but everything you're saying is no different from "Rhule is fuging incompetent" which is true of the explanation he gave as well as the personnel choices he makes on the field.

Horn may very well be a better player and a better fit, but he had to go stuff his foot in his mouth anyway. He just comes off as having no clue what he's doing or saying often lately.

    • You are right--it was DC.  I remember talking to him at Belk in Albemarle one day--the Panthers were on a bye and they were (at the time) a disapointing 4-4.  I mentioned that the record was disappointing and he seemed to get a bit annoyed.  He dId not say anything.  I trying to suggest that we will get better, but I think he was pretty upset about it.  No hard feelings, but the man was simply trying to shop with his wife and this annoying jerk starts making comments about his job---I get it.  I apologized, telling him that I was trying to be supportive and not critical--he did not think it was a big deal.  I'd see him at events from time to time-he'd wave or say hi, but it was awkward for me.  Figured I would say something stupid.  Jordan was pretty popular--nothing like she seems to be now--she is holding her own in a man's world...proud of her.
    • Like we have had the last 3 years.
    • In May of 2026, it looks like a challenging schedule...and it probably is.  I rarely listen to the "strength of schedule" conversations that light up social media this time of year. Each year teams improve and decline. I think there's chunks of the year we need to take care of business and the week 5 bye is not desired.  I do think if we don't hit the bye week at 3-1, it's going to be a major uphill battle given the schedule in front of us. This season falls on three people, regardless of schedule strength: Canales, Bryce, Evero.  Canales: Finally can truly coach all aspects of the team and not focus with gameday prep for OC duties anymore. He drives the bus and needs to get these guys in position to win each week. There's no way vets come in and put it on the line every week to watch our QB sh!t the bed (See: SF game last year). Bryce: Despite everyone's obsession with thinking Bryce is a guaranteed extension, I think this year will truly be his "prove it" year. If he comes out the way he has the past three years, I really don't see how vets and coaches can continue to put him under center long-term. He might play out that fifth year as the starter, but I think next offseason his long-term replacement is found. I also think there's no excuses with the weapons and commitment we've made on offense to insulate him with every possible weapon.  Evero: Best personnel he's had since he's been here...no excuses. Figure out how to blitz effectively. Figure out how to use CBs whose strengths are press/man. Figure out how to utilize a talented front-7 to get the hell of the field. Outside of FS and maybe....maybe ILB, there are few weaknesses on this unit.
