Panthers have reached out to Minnesota for Kirk Cousins

I think CMC is the difference.  When he played, we were 4-3.  When he was out, we were 1-9.

With our defense and a healthy CMC, we can field a competitive team regardless of our QB shortcomings.

If CMC is hurt and misses half the season, we'll win 4-5 games and be picking in the top 5. Darnold will be gone and CMC will be cut.  We can get a good QB there and start out fresh with a new coach.

If he is healthy, our ceiling is probably 8 wins, which will put us picking around 10-14.  We can still get a good young QB in that range but none of the top 3.

If we have to pick a QB this year, I hope we move back, pick up a second, and select Strong.  Give him a chance to sit and watch for a while and improve the OL with our first.  I think he will be successful when the new coaching regime arrives next year.

If the absence of one running back can sink your whole season you weren't a very competitive team to begin with. Panthers fans won't want to hear that but that's where we're at and why we shouldn't have signed that contract with no viable starting QB in place.

Losing CMC is a big deal but if your OC can't do anything other than run 75% of the offense through him, the problem isn't just that we aren't a competitive team. It's in large part because we've been led by a guy who thinks he's smarter than everyone else in the building and well... we've seen how that's worked out. 5-12 is for winners. 1000%

Ron and his staff did the same thing with McCaffrey in 2019 and people thought it was a good thing. The gut punch as fans is the fact we haven't won a damn thing meaningful since we tried to make him the focal point of our offense. His rookie year we went to the playoffs because Cam was still running the ball like the old days. He carried us to a playoff berth. 2020 was such a missed opportunity. Instead of paying CMC like a quarterback we should have had him on the trade block. The only goal should have been acquiring the next young QB to takeover for Cam. But nope we needed a face to sell tickets. That buyers remorse set in quick huh?

Why the hell would they give us Cousins, let us keep #6 and also give us another first rounder?

Lol that’s what I was fixing to type. Hell I think anyone would take that deal

They wouldn't, but we're on the huddle where most everything is make believe so I figured it would fit right in.

In all seriousness though, that's about the only way I'd take Cousins. He's absolutely an upgrade over Darnold, but his cap hit is insane and I wouldn't want to spend any draft picks on him. I'd negotiate with him as a free agent as a stopgap QB, but a trade? nah.

    • Reasonable. I mean I didn’t see a clear path to relief this season myself. As I have typed already, I think the QB FA class is more interesting next season and that draft is supposed to be stacked as well. There just weren’t many options this year.  When you have Tepper to contend with you have to tread lightly around this unless you are 100% certain and willIng to stake your job on it.   There were a couple of outings that helped Bryce a lot in terms of  thinking maybe he can do this, and if you are a supporter you are giving them a lot of weight. You are likely to think just get him some more help and he can do that every week. Which I think Tepper falls into that category.  And the playoffs, division champs, regardless of the way I see that, the supporters will also give that a lot of weight.    And the big one, the atmosphere In BOA for that WC game, Tepper had to be soiling himself over that. If you pulled Bryce out right now you had better be right and your new guy had better make the playoffs and look good doing it or you will be gone and your chance to build your old team back into respectability will be gone too.  So here we have Pickett on a one year deal, and Grier and King. I understand it.
    • Well, seeing as we play the Lions at home this year, pretty sure that rumor isn't true.
