Are the Broncos following the Rams formula?

The difference is that Denver wasn't already a competitive team. They are talented but not good.

LA was only a couple of years removed from a SB appearance, were competitive and insanely talented.

Wilson makes then a SB contender but I don't think I would consider them a favorite.

Buy (as in sign big name FAs) your way to the Super Bowl. With picks not always working out, is it better to get proven commodiaties?

A lot of teams try but few can pull it off. If you dont have most of your money tied up in mediocre players that is. You have to have enough young quality players that you've drafted to allow you to go out and get a few hired guns to make a run. The problem is you cannot sustain that approach as evident by who regularly makes it to the bowl.  I wouldn't bet on the Rams repeating what they did last season. It just doesn't happen in this era.  But that doesn't stop every team from trying to find that formula. Most are happy to get just one chance and that's what they build for. The easiest route, well relatively speaking, to get a shot is to go all in like most do when they think they are close.  The problem is you have to be a well built team in a short amount of time or have been building for years to pull it off. Very few have the patience or the stomach to do what it takes to build a solid team that is a regular contender.  It seems our owner is one of them.

Remember Philly’s Dream Team? Most of it will play out that way when you try to buy a ‘ship. This ain’t the MLB.

Denver 15, TB 20 and LAR 21 are hopefully anomalies. SB’s are much more satisfying when it’s homegrown and earned rather than bought / purchased.

also, old man yells at cloud. Who gives a fug.

When the Broncos acquire McCaffrey and go from worst to first, we will all be wondering what if...

Why would they go after mccaffrey when they have Williams and Gordon? Did Marty hurney sign on as GM?

Gordon will be a free agent and they have yet to move on signing him to a contract. Waiting to see what they can do in trade negotiations. So, they obviously have their target set on a RB valued higher than Gordon.

    • This is a good take it really is to the point dc needs to let the world see the real byoung b/c right now everyone in the media and tepper has had blinders on when it comes to young.  Its hard to even know where the panthers are at skill player wise with such horrible qb play.  I doubt it but legette may be a probowl wr he just cant throw the ball and catch it.  I am just so sick of every excuse in the book for byoung.  LIstened to a podcast and the guy was going over how many different options byoung had on the int and all of them were ok except for the one where he threw an int.  He said the play could be run by a hs qb and they would typically make a good decision.
    • I certainly have my complaints about Canales but I'm not ready to fire him yet for a couple of reasons. First and foremost, Tepper has made this one of the least appealing jobs in the league. Morgan and Canales are here to begin with in large part because guys higher on the wish list take other jobs. If you fire Canales you're gonna end up replacing him with another third tier candidate who wasn't being seriously considered by other teams with openings. That's just the reality of the situation right now as far as I can tell. Secondly, despite plenty of room for critique, we are 6-6 despite the worst QB play in the league. That's really damn hard to pull off in the modern NFL. Especially when your D isn't dominant. Our D is greatly improved but is still a slightly below average overall defense ranking 18th in yards per game allowed and 20th in points allowed. Going 6-6 with atrocious QB play and slightly below average defensive play is pretty damn impressive. Even more impressive when you also factor in that we're in the red on turnovers differential at -3. When you combine league worst QB play with slightly below average D and negative turnover differential honestly you'd expect to be in play for the #1 overall pick, not 6-6 and having just played a game that a win would have you leading the division. So yeah, even though I'm far from sold I advocate for patience with Canales for the time being. If you ask me if I'm bringing him back next year, I'm a yes barring a catastrophic meltdown down the stretch which admittedly is very much a possibility.
