There should be no issue with Watson waiving his trade clause per ESPN.

Yes if I wanted to get the deal done. That's how this stuff works. Look at the Rams and Lions trade last year.... they had to include goff in the deal for cap reasons to make it happen, and Rams gave up an extra pick to pull it off.

This is a different situation though. The Rams and Lions weren't desperate to make that trade. The Texans haven't been desperate to unload Watson while the Panthers have shown they are desperate to acquire him. The Texans have all the leverage in any deal with the Panthers, especially with other teams looking to trade for Watson too.

I think that can officially happen on Wednesday when the new league year starts

Gotcha. I know it was officially waived for the Dolphins but maybe that was in the time frame you are referring to last year.

If this is true don’t understand a timeline for waiving a clause when trades are already happening but is what it is I guess.

The Rams seemed pretty desperate and it's well known that other teams were trying to trade for Stafford.

its pretty much an identical situation. Panthers/Rams desperate for bettter QB talent. Texans/Lions disgruntled QB who wants out.

Could totally see this as well…but jeez we will have like no picks for 2 to 3 years.  SMH

If you get rid of your young guys and give away all those future picks, we'll still be a shitty team. Just one with a franchise QB

It might lead to more free agents coming here

It also might lead to Rhule looking better than he is and a fractured fanbase, even more so than now

I have a real hard time supporting a team with Watson in it   Great QB but a creeper

im probably in the minority

Technically Russ has a no-trade as well, but has agreed to go to Denver in the past week ... it seems like the no-trade shouldn't have been holding up a potential trade

So is Jimmy G a franchise QB as well then?

Since there is no clear definition of what a franchise QB is, it depends on how you define one.

  • Is a franchise QB the face of the franchise?
  • Is a franchise QB the starting QB?
  • Is a franchise QB someone that consistently puts up high stats?
  • Is a franchise QB some that has the support of the organization and they aren't looking to replace him?

The San Francisco area news considered him the face of the team, so yeah, he could be considered a franchise QB.

Younger known players on rookie contracts are more valuable than first round picks. Because it’s a known quantity vs unknown.

Which is why you usually hold on to those players.  Watson is also due like 40 million for this upcoming season that the NFL might decide to shorten for him.  WTF.

Did FA flock to Houston when he was playing?

NFL will decide on a suspension depending on what team he goes to. If he goes to one of their darling teams, nothing will happen. If he comes to us or some other small team, suspension will be imminent. Count on it.

This is what I’m afraid of

The Rams weren't offering top 10 picks, and what could be a top 5 pick next year. They fully expected to get to the SB which would mean pick 32 and then another late 20s/30s pick. Value isn't close to the same.

    • I hate to burst anyones bubble but this guy played 188 total defensive snaps in three years but 802 special teams snaps. If we do kick the tires, it's probably gonna be for that latter part.
    • I do believe that Evero gets canned before the end of the season and Capers takes over the D. I think the stage is set for Evero to fall on the sword for a 4-7 win season.  Not saying it would be a set up but I do think if that transpires, the seat under DC might start getting pretty warm, rightly or wrongly. That's my read on Tepper. I am not at all excited nor am I dreading anything. I just have extremely low expectations so I am just waiting to see what this revision of the roster looks like.  I FEEL like we are better on paper than last season's team but I wouldn't be remotely shocked if we were as bad or worse. Again, I do think this is the 2nd worst roster in franchise history overall. What will really make me happy is for some of the big questions to finally be answered(Bryce, Ikey, Horn, etc). I would like to see a real expansion of our core player pool(basically just D. Brown currently). I want to see a couple of hits in free agency and a couple in the draft. If we accomplish those things, I have faith that we are at least moving in the right direction after many, many years doing the opposite.
