The thing that eases my mind a bit about the draft pick compensation is that those could very easily be busts with our draft track record. Fitts seems a bit better than Hurney/DG but who knows for sure. A sure thing franchise QB in place is extremely important. My issue is still with adding a franchise defender (or more than 1) to those picks. Burns, Chinn and Horn should be off limits. Brown or someone else, ok.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned specifically, but it's been touched on by other posters, is the value of our 6th overall this year vs. other competing offers. Because the value of future picks is reduced by about 1 round per year into the future, our 6th overall this year is worth approximately the same as a mid-first round pick each of the next 3 drafts.

If Burns and Chinn are worth a late first each, then our 6th overall this year and those two players is equivalent to 3 1s this year, and a first in each of the next 2 drafts (5 1sts overall). That should be more than enough to meet their asking price, right?! If so, we would have our QB and all of our picks starting next year to start building the team around him. What am I missing (besides the fact that we are probably going to give up far more than Houston's original asking price)?

technically, you can combine 2 first round picks late in the draft and the value would be less than the #6 pick.  Since Houston has the #3 pick, they could strike gold with a few free agents and the draft.

Dude you are gonna be hospitalized if we don’t get him.  Way too emotionally invested dog

I dont believe I've shown any emotions. This has been the most discussion worthy that has occurred in months here. Dont hate that I want in the fun of conversing potential outcomes, ha. I get joy in this poo.

Ill be the first to jump into a backup plan thread too if we lose out.

I've found you to be one of the more reasonable voices in here, FWIW.

Panthers are officially 35 million over the cap with the recent moves. If Darnold is included in the deal and we collect on the 6.1 bonuses from Fox. We will be just under 60 million under the cap. That does not include Watson's cost.

Atm D4 would cost 35 million and leave us 25million. However, if he is restructured at time of trade.... get your popcorn...

Now Colin is saying Brown's going after Watson. I'd much rather us go get Baker and keep our 6th than mortgage the future for Watson and give away young defensive players

that would be a good backup plan for us. Baker can most likely be had for a conditional 3rd because of the browns vocality around trading him. They reduced his value.
