Looks like the Saints just restructured Marcus Davenport's contract to save them just under 7 million on the cap this year. Still nowhere near what they need for DW.

Interesting because it also knocks out what you would assume would be one of their few attractive pieces in a trade.

yet national media thinks Saints... none of this adds up.

The national media WANTS the Saints.  They are a much bigger product than we ever were. Hell people don't even know what city the Panthers play in or what state Charlotte is even in.  New Orleans, while a "small market" has a fanbase 10x what we have.

Record isn't everything. Personality matters and Rhule is arrogant about his abilities and puts blame on others when it doesn't belong there. That tends not to sit well with people.

Don’t misconstrue his media appearances with how he’s perceived by players. All his players love him and are very vocal about it.

They keep saying that a decision is likely to come tomorrow - at least thats the prevailing theory now.  And the Houston media and the Charlotte media all believe that Carolina is the leader right now.

I’m a little behind reading today but do you have any updates from Houston media saying we’re leading? Only thing I’ve seen is national media saying Saints.

Exactly.  Apparently Houston is more than willing to just let Watson sit on the bench for another year and eat his salary.  They're not going to take pennies on the dollar just because he wants to go somewhere like Atlanta.  So, that no trade clause aint all its cracked up to be.  He could say "I will not accept a trade anywhere but Atlanta" and Houston could say "Have fun playing Safety on the Practice Squad for the next 4 years".

Maybe not pennies on the dollar but probably 75c on the dollar versus sitting him another year in which has value then decreases to that 75c anyways.

    • I read that Pittsburgh is a possibility.  I think of college QB studs who had some form of mental quirk yet tons of talent--but their issue made being a team leader difficult and it led to their demise--going back:  Jamarcus Russell, Art Schlichter, Jeff George, etc. I think people forget that the QB must not only have talent, but they must lead.
    • I wish I knew more details, but the NIL money to 20-year olds combined with easy access to gambling sites is a side effect that these kids may not have considered.  To your point,A famous 2009 Sports Illustrated article titled “How (and Why) Athletes Go Broke” estimated that 78% of retired NFL players go bankrupt or face significant financial stress within two years of leaving the league.  I am guessing that ego and $$$ and the thrill of competition (most pro athletes love competition because they are the winners) makes it a powerful temptation.  Throw in the ease of gambling on your phone which is always in your hand, and I see your point x 10.
    • Freeling got some reps at RT when they gave Moton a rest day--I sorta hope Freeling gets brought along slowly as you describe.  It would be better for him for reasons you provide.  We have a really good problem.
