You do know Utah was playing backup running backs in their secondary, right? They were destroyed by injuries in their back end.

He is just following the path of Haskins and Fields. OSU is for QBs what USC was back in the lienart days. They face no pressure and have all day and open wide receivers to throw to every play. I like Stroud, but it's just so tough to evaluate QBs on teams like that.

Put me in the camp that if we draft a QB, the only way I’ll be happy about it is if we traded back. There’s a talent drop off after the first 8 or 9 picks, I would rather us grab Cross or Neal or the NC State tackle at 6. Run one more year with Sam or Cam, and then draft a rookie to put behind a stout OLine going into 23.

Most what I read about him and his stats its because of his time in the kiffen offense.  That doesnt necessarily translate to the NFL.  And yeah his attitude and past transgressions should raise a red flag and need to be looked into deeper.

High school transgressions? Come on. The Lane Kiffen stuff is a little weak, just saying. The large majority of QBs must make a fairly steep transition to the NFL. He has proven to be coachable, and that's why he improved over time.

God I hope we punt on drafting a qb this year.  Lets just build the line and go from there.   There is not one of those dudes on that list that just screams playoff qb.

I don’t know how you could possibly know that.

He had Zach Wilson over Trevor Lawrence last year

Also had Mac Jones there as well.  He was the biggest Mac Jones hype man among the media people to the point it felt he was on the Bama payroll.  If I’m not mistaken he had Jones QB 2 or 3

    • I've shown you numerous comps for other tackles in the same age and talent range.  His contract, taking into account his age, health, etc.  is the going rate.  It's a fair deal. I've shown you examples of how long it usually takes to find even an average replacement.  Hell, look at every tackle that has ever started for the Panthers.  How many would you consider a success?  They are not easy to find. After everything we've done with this team since drafting Bryce why would we decide to let our best linemen go and add a huge question mark at tackle?   FA is a crapshoot in which any guy available will have cons/issues.  If not, they'll cost a fortune.   Outside of a first or maybe 2nd round pic next year it'll take a few years for a tackle to learn the position at the NFL level.  There are still questions about Icky. Every vet NFL player deals with maintenance.  Between the contract value and history I'm not overly worried about his knee.  I contend his knee issue isn't anything to be overly worried about.  It's not zero risk but it's an acceptable risk.  Every player we draft and every contract we sign has risk.  You're blowing up his own negative words about his knees and ignoring him saying he is healthy and the knee is a non issue.  You have a strong chicken little complex with this team.  Being he has always been a Panther they are very aware of any health issues. We paid now because now is cheaper.  If his knee was really an issue they would have waited.  That tells me it's not the issue you want it to be.
