Running QBs don’t win Superb Owls

That's fair. I try to look at stats on occasion to determine if a QB is a rushing QB or not. That's why I view Rodgers as more of a pocket passer.

Rodgers isn't exactly a statue athletically speaking, but you don't really see him run all that much anymore.

I think he might have been more willing to do it when he was younger, but again he's such a great passer he rarely needs to.

Agreed.

Such a dumb argument. Hill, RG3, The Golden Calf of Bristol are all busts that never made it as QBs in the NFL. Hill isn’t even a QB honestly… Should I make pocket QBs who have busted? Your list is just Cam, Lamar, Vick, and Murray. If you think Cam’s running ability is why we lost the Super Bowl you weren’t watching the game. Vick wasn’t developed by the Falcons leading to injuries and then the off fields issues messed his career up. Andy Reid coached him up in Philadelphia, but it was later in his career.

Running QBs can be developed into Josh Allen, Steve Young, Elway, Rodgers type players than can beat you in the pocket or make you pay with their legs. The problem is teams seem hesitant to beef up the OL when they have QBs that can run like the Cards, Panthers with Cam, and Falcons. You have to build a team around any QB to win it all. The Bills are doing it right and will have as good a chance as anyone to win it all with a QB who can run and has running plays drawn up for him.

In 52 Super Bowls, maybe maybe one if you count Wilson but he Scrambles to make a good throw like Mahomes. Steve Young, same thing. Lamar, Vick, Cam, The Golden Calf of Bristol, RGknee, Murray, Tasum Hill, on and on.

Accurate pocket passers that trust their line, make great throws, move around so they avoid hits/sacks.

That’s a big hell no to Willis. Its Corral or Pickett. If you aren’t sold on either. Oline it up at least and trade for ….dear god Jimmy G or Michew and get one next year.

You know there was a time when black people couldn't QB, or win SB's -- there is always going to be a 1st, this antiquated way of thinking needs to go on somewhere.

We'd have won with Cam if we'd actually decided to game-plan versus the best pass rusher in the league at that time. "Cotchery Caught It'' as we all the NFL making sure they sent Peyton out on a high into the sunset.

This is a lazy and revisionist take, out of those 52 super bowls; for 40 if not more of them "running qbs" (whatever that's defined as, lol) were not popular leaguewide and there were only 1-2 of them most years if we're referring to true scramblers. Dual threat players didn't become popularized until Vick but truthfully even during and immediately after Vick there were only 3-5 if not less true dual threat guys in the NFL until Cam's ROTY season  and the read option popularized them in the early 2010s. They've stuck around ever since because news flash; mobility and the ability to pick up yards with your legs isn't a bad thing. Instead of dismissing a prospect over a good thing, why not focus on actual flaws in his game? Because Willis has plenty..

Also Russ might not be a true dual threat QB now because of his changed playstyle but in 2012 he absolutely was when he ran for 540 yards that season and then went for over 800 the year afterwards. There's no argument as to if that "counts" or not unless you only refer to a running qb as a Lamar or Vick type because even Cam had 500ish yards some years. And yes, Cam was a good thrower as well as a great runner so that pretty much debunks this whole myth that you can't be a runner who can pass already but I know that truth sends people into a frenzy around here.

Since 2012, the following have appeared in super bowls:
Cam Newton

Colin Kaepernick (he wasn't any good, but if anything this only strengthens the point that a dual threat guy can make it with a great team and that the stigma means nothing)

Russell Wilson [x2]

That means that in the past 9 seasons, 4 times a dual threat guy has appeared and that's with the greatest QB of all time whoring up six super bowl appearances and three wins in that timeframe in the AFC (and NFC one year). Yet in spite of that,  around 20% of super bowl appearing qbs have been dual threat types in that time span and that number will likely only continue to rise in the future with more and more dual threat QBs popping up in the league like Josh Allen. Is throwing ability more important for a QB? Duh. But being able to make the defense pay with your legs isn't a bad thing. It's an extra dimension that the opposing defense has to gameplan for.

In the past 10 super bowls pocket passers have won all but 2.  I count Mahomes and Wilson as "mobile" qbs.  However in the mahomes playoff run he had a total of 50 yards rushing and wilson had a total of 40 yards rushing in his.  Running and even mobile qbs seem to be way overrated when it comes to the playoffs.  You have to beat good defenses with passing in the pocket

What’s dumb?  Running QBs don’t win Super Bowls. Plain and simple.

It’s dumb how you pivot and define running QBs to fit a small scale. 4 of the top 11 QBs with the most rushing yards all time have rings. Period. So out of the top 11 QBs that have the most career rushing yards 36-37% won a Super Bowl. Here is a dumb blanket statement for you. Based on history, pocket QBs have a higher chance of busting than QBs that can run.

Running is now an essential part of the game for the QB. It's part of the package in a well rounded QB. Unless they are some rate elite passer like brady, they need to bring food passing and a lot of mobility to the game. They have to be able to run. OLs aren't as it good as  they used to be and Cam really opened up the door for these dual threats, bringing in the modern rome if the QB. That door is going to be wide open for a long time. If you're not on board with that, you're going to be hating the game for a long time.

The "NO RUNNING QB!!!!" folks here are becoming truly insufferable. If you don't like or want that style of QB fine but not everyone needs to hear about it every 5 minutes 🤷‍♂️

They don't like mentioning Josh Allen either.  It's like they are in denial....  Yeah Cam is the reason we lost the Super Bowl and Manning was the reason they won.  Makes so much sense!

    • I guess I should have stipulated outside the sacred cow.   I complained from year one that Bryce should compete for and win the starting job on his own merit but no he was just handed it. I have been right there with everyone that wants competition.  But I don’t really have a huge problem with it for this season the way it has gone because where are the viable people we don’t have to trade for? I actually am okay with tiny hands Pickett because he is so close to Bryce arm strength wise and to be honest, skill wise. Probably. And it is only a one year deal.  That also takes I to account that the QB class is looking stacked next year and if Young fails miserably then we get either a reset or a real competition and there will be more guys that I would like looking at in the FA QB class next year as well.    I sort of accept where we are this year and look at it as a treading water year. I just want to get to next year with some clarity. More than anything. And they did empty out the room. Again, who was really there for us?  And I know it would not be a true competition at this point anyway. They are giving him the year, like it or not.    Also I don’t give a poo about winning games IF he sucks and or goes down after sucking because draft position and that stacked QB class.  And I want out from under him So Bad.     So I guess it is several factors that lessen my anxiety over his backup this particular season.    I am not trying to convince anyone, but you asked.
    • What happened to King? Was he a no show?
    • think these smaller Qb's are going to have a much harder time convincing an NFL team to draft them. not saying a smaller Qb under 6 feet tall will not make an NFL roster .it will most likely be a UDFA contract more or less prove it deal.NFL teams have been burnt time & time again investing in these small NFL Qbs & i think  teams are now finally starting to realize that investing in these smaller Qb's under 6 feet tall is simply a bad idea  ...just saying
