The Charlotte Observer reports "there's a strong chance" QB Sam Darnold will be the Panthers' Week 1 starter.

There's some "belief in the organization" that Darnold, who was the youngest starting quarterback in league history and is only 24, will take a step forward in 2022.

Whoever believes this should be fired immediately. It should be a full house cleaning, razed down to the foundation. Tepper should call for a meeting, ask anyone willing to go to bat for Darnold to raise their hand, and anybody who does so is removed from the building on the spot. There’s no future for this organization if these people are given any kind of influence in the decision making process.

We haven't had a LT since Gross retired at the end of 2013. We had one good random season from Oher in 2015 and the rest have been mediocre. If we can somehow get a team to trade up and recoup some draft capital and still nap a Charles Cross so we can finally solve the long-standing question of "can he play LT?" then I'm ok with our punishment of watching Darnold next year. Who knows maybe the whole "He's only 24" thing turns out to be good and he actually develops into something that resembles an NFL starting QB. Then the whole huddle worships Ben Mcadoo for the next 9 months.

If you want a LT, fine. But don't let it delude you into thinking a shiny new LT might make Darnold salvageable. Were you watching him? Most of his worst decisions come when he actually has the time to survey the field.
