Which LT in the draft will bust?

Not saying he will be a bust but Evan Neal may not project to be a super great left tackle like some are hoping.

A lot of pro scouts  say an NFL team could get away with Neal at left tackle, but he would be a more dominant player at right tackle or guard.

At the Senior Bowl, sources from a couple of NFL teams with top-10 picks said they would not play Neal at left tackle in the pros. Neal is an overwhelming blocker in the ground game and capable as a pass blocker.

I think that is the thing about saying "bust." Do we mean Greg Little bust or a guy who busts at the position? Guys like Neal, Ekwonu or Penning might be Pro Bowl caliber players at RT or OG. Is that a true bust or maybe just a guy that wasn't great positional value?

Ekwonu. He's extremely talented, but also very raw.

I generally disagree. I can see a definite argument for him being a bust as a LT but it's hard for me to envision Ekwonu or Penning(barring injury) being true busts. The way they play the game, the athletic ability and their intelligence(both smart guys), makes me think they will be successful SOMEWHERE on the OL.

I don't see all the same things in Neal or Cross.

But, I mean, give me any of the 4.

That was gonna be my comment. If you mean AT LT, Neal or Ekwonu. But I also think those guys could be Pro Bowl caliber OG's or RT's.

The biggest chance of being an overall bust, probably Cross.

I think it’s Cross because he wouldn’t be able to slide into OG that easily if he struggles. I get a little amount of Greg Little vibes from him with the grading well in pass protection, but needing work in run blocking.

Ekwonu, Smith and Penning will be busts. Neal and Cross will be serviceable. None of the top 5 tackles will be all pro. Tackles are heavily overrated at the top just like the QBs. You can find mid round OTs just as good as the hyped prospects.

Kinnard, Faalele, Tom, and Vrabel will be the best from this class.

I wouldn't be shocked if several OTs from this class are moved to guard.

I agree, he's possibly just Brady Christensen with longer arms. If he's only a 10% of an upgrade over BC I wouldn't spend the 6th pick on him. Mcadoo and Fitt obviously went for the opposite type players in FA so far, more road grader/mauler types.

If we don't trade back I'd take a shot at Qb and grab whichever of those 4 guys are there in the 4th, grab Hayes or Thayer in the 5th if still around. Even if they aren't starters I'd rather have young depth that wanna play instead of these journeymen we were using the last 2 years

I realize most of the takes here are based on expert analysis of 30 second film clips, but here goes. Neal and Ekwonu are RT or G in the NFL. Cross not only excels at pass protection, but also was very good in run blocking his Fr year when MSU did not run the Air Raid offense. He is a plug and play 10 yr starter at LT.

    • He is a WR 1. Sean McVey was right to covet him.  Glad he won't be suiting up against us Saturday.
    • OSU runs a base 4-2-5 with Sonny playing in the middle lb and Arvel Reese playing the weak side lb (Columbus Dispatch).  Arvell Reese seems more like the versatile lb who can play edge too.  I think both will be gone by our pick so we would need to look at the UGA and Texas off ball lb's.  If Styles is there at 19 take him as quick as you did Tet; if not, think about trading back to get one of the other guys (UGA or Texas).  I feel like this is a four deep ILB class. I feel like we won't be looking at a quality Edge at 19 either (Texas Tech guy). Trading back so we can address ILB, Edge, and Oline with picks in the first two rounds would be great.  Not really wild about the free agent market for Edge and ILB as the best ones are pretty old.
    • also, draft position doesn't mean anything once you make it to the NFL.  Jalen Coker is legit.   Now, he might not of been healthy every game but as of right now.....there is really zero reason this offense is bottom of the league.  We got the OL.  We got the RBs and we got the WRs to be a pretty decent offense.  We just need someone putting the ball where it needs to be.
