Practicing While Intoxicated

Dan Campbell says he's seen it.

You’ll find a way to make that guy work. Not saying we want those guys, but he loved ball, and he had success. And he’s still playing today, by the way.”

Campbell did not identify the player. Campbell was with the Dolphins from 2010 to 2015, spending most of that time as tight ends coach and ending his tenure in Miami as interim head coach.

If he knew this guy was showing up to practice intoxicated and assuming he drove himself to said practice and nothing was done in the form of reprimanding, I have zero respect for Campbell as a coach or a person.

Maybe I'm horrifically out of touch, but wouldn't you think it's incumbent upon the coaching staff to identify, acknowledge and address what's clearly a substance abuse problem in one of his players?

I have heard from a former NBA player that they had a guy show up reeking of booze for a lot of practices and still dominate. He is also a multiple All Star player.

There's no way to know whether the guy drove himself to practice or not. It's an assumption.

Saying that someone "reeked of alcohol" is very different than saying they were intoxicated.  A guy I played with in college came to practices and just reeked of it, but he wasn't intoxicated.  He was just sweating it out the day after.

I've known guys like that that have gotten DUI's on the way to work the next morning, or have the ignition breathalyzer thing and can't start their cars til 2-3pm
