Matt Corral

Could the Panthers be throwing BS and really not interested in Willis or Pickett, but actually looking at this guy. Know he is from a smaller program, but looks like he has the arm and the athletic ability to go to the next level. Word that the Saints really want Pickett or Willis and willing to trade picks for either one. They can have them. Would you guys take a shot at him?  He may go in the first round, so waiting past that may be a risk. Possibly trade back and snatch him in late first round along with a decent LT in 2nd?

I like the player. I have questions about the mental makeup though.

Make the Saints give up both picks. We get Corral and BPA which could legitimately be a guy like Drake London. I realize we have more pressing issues than WR right now but the argument could be made this is RAs last year, who knows about Shi, and if TM doesn’t pan out we literally have one legit WR.

If London really is Mike Evans 2.0 like he’s billed and you take a guy like Matt Corral….know what’s going to make him really good? Really good receivers.

He played legit competition at Ole Miss.

He's the only QB out of the top guys that I personally want in the first round (though admittedly pick 6 might be a stretch). I said as much months ago now. He's enigmatic as opposed to the others, so at least I can dream he'll be a franchise-level QB one day as opposed to JAG or a bust like I see some of the others becoming.

    • I like the approach Morgan takes in free agency where we fill holes with at least serviceable players and use the draft for BPA. So, I expect us to bring in a Safety, 1 really good LB and 1 kinda so so vet LB in case they lose faith in Wallace, an edge rusher, and with ickey's injury I think we will be the team that overpays for a LT like Rasheed Walker with the plan to move him to RT depending on Ickey's health and how long Moton wants to play.
    • Look at Rashid Saheed contract for 2024. He was more productive than Coker but probably a good reference. I think it was 1 year 5.2 million.
    • I expect the same strategy as we did last year. 3 year deals for guys around 25 to 28 years old and have the cap number be lower in 2026 and back load the contracts for 2027 and 2028 when our cap space is 100 million in 2027 and 360 million in 2028. With the years of terrible drafting this team had under Rhule and Fitterer and the lack of picks from all the panic QB trades has made it where we have few long-term contract commitments on the roster.  I'm sure there's probably some restructures and cuts we can make to give ourselves some more room this year if we need it but overall, our cap situation is in a good spot under Dan and Brandt.  I think we'll be pretty big spenders again this year. With us making the playoffs and being in a weak division I see Morgan being pretty aggressive this offseason.
