Why sign a QB that doesn't want to be here?

Mayfield is not interested in Carolina. Why would they try and force his hand if he is going to be a problem?

Are they stupid enough to do this knowing he could cause turmoil on the team and in the locker room? From what I have read his Brown teammates are not very fond of him as a person.

What do you think....would they force the issue?

Honestly, Baker is ultimately going to play wherever he can because no one really wants him. I'm not even sure that we do. Sure, we'll take him under the right circumstances (which will include jettisoning Sammy), but I just don't see it happening. Forcing the issue for Baker Mayfield just seems too funny to say (funny as in peculiar and/or humorous).

You guys don't remember the "mutual disinterest" tweets from a few weeks ago?

Yeah it sounded like the one was Watson wasn't interested either until he was.  It also said we weren't interested in Mayfield either and now sources are saying there is some interest.  Unless he says it himself I wouldn't consider it too valid...

Where did he say he wasn’t interested in playing for us?

There were reports that per "league sources", there was "mutual disinterest" between both parties. That may mean nothing, but I will say that in Baker's first interview after breaking his silence, he mentioned Seattle as a potential fit and didn't say sh!t about the Panthers, when we're arguably the most obvious ones.

Is there a good QB that wants to be here?

With Rhule as HC, I don't think there is. This team is extremely dysfunctional right now and it starts with our HC. Who (other than Tepper) can look at the way our team has been running the last 2 years and honestly say that Matt Rhule is going to turn this franchise around and build a winner?

There have been indications that our position has changed.

There's been no indication thus far that his position has.

I mean I doubt he is knocking down the door trying to play for Matt Rhule, but I'm sure he would have no problem playing here if we traded for him.  Let's be honest, he doesn't have many other options nor is he in a position to be picky...

    • I'm looking at the schedule and I see a 10+win season easy.  I think Carolina goes undefeated in the division.  I also believe that the Bears, Bengals, Lions, Browns, Steelers are very winnable.  Revenge game with phillips and the eagles could be a win.  Honestly only 2 games I see as chalking up a L to off the bat is the Seahawks and Broncos.
    • I guess so. Don't think I was involved with previous discussions.  Tepper is one of the newest owners in the NFL. Dan is going into his 3rd season as a GM - ever. Dave is going into his 3rd season as a HC - ever. Before becoming a HC, he was an OC/playcaller for one season total. Idzik is about to go into his 1st year as a play caller - ever. WRs are rookies, sophomores and 3rd year guys - though the experienced 3rd year guys are XL and Coker (who has missed a ton of games). TEs are guys going into their 2nd and 3rd seasons, and Tommy Tremble - though Sanders has missed a ton of games. QB has played 3 years. Chuba is an experienced RB, but Brooks and Etienne have taken very little snaps at the position. O-line is more experienced vets with some talent - which is HUGE. Need them to stay healthy. I mean the offense is very young in every aspect except O-line. You see it differently?
