Corral is 3rd round QB... lol at all of you thinking he was gonna start this year. Furthermore sitting him for a year wont hurt him.  And yes they will see plenty of him IN PRACTICE.  Which is perfect.  Throwing a mid round talent right into the fire is a great way to ruin a prospect.

Strictly speaking as a fan, I wanted to see Corral start so the team either A) knows he is something worth building around or B) he plays so poorly the Panthers end up in prime position to take one of the top QBs in next year's draft.

Nobody is against winning.

What people fear is a short-term flash in the pan leading to an extended investment that turns out to not be worth it. Imagine, for example, that we had given Sam Darnold a big extension based on the first four games of last year.

Heck, it wouldn't be the first time it happened to this team. Jerry Richardson gave Dom Capers a ten year guaranteed contract extension based on the 1996 season and look what happened after that.

A lot of people don't believe in Matt Rhule and could very easily see a similar thing happening with him.

Goddang this is poetry and exactly how I feel

If he plays great and you arent sure about what to do then you franchise him and make him do it again.   If hes great two years then your question is kind of answered.   If hes mediocre hes gone or cheap.

For all of you guys that like the trade you still will not answer the question.

If we are drafting in the 20's are you comfortable giving mayfield a monster deal or franchise tagging him?

Say he duplicates his 2020 stats, you willing to go all in with him?

I would tag his ass and see if he can do it again.  If he can then he earns a contract.  If not then we cut him lose with no additional financial loss (outside of that big tag hit for the year).

That's the problem. I can't see the long term plan here.

I like the trade. Unless Baker lights it up I dont think he gets a monster deal. Assuming 2020 stats and we dont draft a QB in round 1 I think he gets tagged as a 'prove it year' or signs a short 3 year deal that gets redone if he turns it on.

His 'next' contract Im not worried about at all.

Yep, this isnt hard.  Quit trying to be cute and save your job.  In reality if MC plays and looks good to decent that alone will buy Rhule more time.  Shitting the bed with Baker is most def going to get your ass fired and maybe fitts as well

"He can make that money back via on-field incentives."

That means those are in the contract as "not likely to be earned" NLTBE.  If those are earned, they are charged to the following year’s Salary Cap

In other words, if Baker balls out, he's going to cost us next year's cap.

That would be a nice problem to have, right?

That was Cleveland's only playoff year in how long???  They were the worst team in the entire league and he had them in the playoffs in year three.  Not too bad considered he was playing for such a terribly ran organization.  I get the OL was good, but how am I suppose to hold that against him?  Brady usually has a good OL, Manning always had a great one, Brees always had a good one.

Cleveland didn't have the best OL in football when they were the worst team in the league.

The point is, Baker is not going to perform better in Carolina than he did in Cleveland because the OL, RB contingent and WR group were very very good during his time there.  He didn't throw for that many yards in 2020 anyway.  Teddy had more yards here in 2020.  Cleveland was one of the best running teams in he league.

I'm not saying Baker sucks.  I'm saying its unlikely that Baker will play better here.  He's better than Sam, its just hard to say how much.  Sam never, ever, had the #1 OL in the NFL at the end of the end of the season.  Ever.    What would Baker's career look like at the Jets and then Carolina last year?

    • lol well that kinda ended up working out in the end, even though I still don't have my jersey yet. Was supposed to ship by tomorrow this time, but just got another email saying it was delayed another 3 weeks and because it's been delayed so long, I had to tell them to keep the order or cancel it, but gave me a 25% off my next order as an apology. Well, my original fear came true and they are now selling the FUSE version (but still not the Blue unfortunately) before the one I ordered was ever shipped. But that's awesome, because I was able to use that coupon to order the FUSE instead and then cancelled the original order.  So I got the jersey I wanted for only $6.30 more than the crappier version costs, and it also says it will be shipped immediately and get here early next week, or 2 weeks before the other was now supposed to be shipped out.
    • I've watched this and think we are well underway.  Believe it or not, Bryce is a big part of this.  The way he bounced back with such grace.  And we've got a lot of young players who want to make their mark, Dave is giving them an opportunity.  I loved our draft.  I like the number of guys we brought in, and they will help build the culture we want under Dave.  We're getting closer, and I think we'll see more wins this year than most of the board. The right culture breeds winning, and winning builds the right culture.  Imho, it's coming.
    • As others have said it's both. One creates the other. But it also takes time sometimes years. And there have been teams lately with new car smell coaching staffs that looked like they were putting it together quickly but things came crashing back down to Earth. Sustainability is the key. For that to happen the meddling of our owners has to stop and they cannot be tempted to return to their ways over any bump in the road either.
