Cool....So what happens if corral looks better in camp?

I highly doubt a rookie will look better than a vet in camp.

There’s nothing wrong with a 3rd round rookie QB riding the bench for a year.

This right here. Corral isn't going anywhere.

Mayfield is under contract for one year.

Nothing about this trade makes Corral a wasted pick.

Yep.

Unless Mayfield BALLS OUT, this will set us back at the QB position and muddy yet another draft next season. Foolish seems to be the #newnormal at 1 Panther Place

How will it muddy anything? We have Corral. What, you expected a Super Bowl this season?

The plan should be, if we truly had a first round grade on him, would be to have Ben M build an offense around MC that wouldnt overwhelm him in week 1 and build from there.  Give him every fuging rep you can in practice and at least see what you have.  At some point in the season you will have an pretty concrete idea if he can play and grasp what you are trying to accomplish.  If so awesome you ahve a cheap qb to build around, if not and he is a disaster draft another one.  This isnt hard

You can do all of that next year too. Corral is a baby. If Baker BALLS OUT ... well that's a pretty good problem to have, no? Great QB play with a possibly great backup? Every GM in the league would want that.

BTW in  2020, Bakers only playoff year,  Cleveland's OL was #1 overall, at the end of season.

And now he has a decent one again.

Corral isn't going ... anywhere. We are the SAME team, just with a better QB than last year.

I’ve said it before that Corral’s development was one way to ensure another Rhule year. He doesn’t have to make the playoffs if Corral looks like he’ll become a good QB. Darnold in the easy stretch and Corral in our hard stretch wasn’t going to win a lot so top 3 was absolutely in play. You also forget our depth is atrocious. A couple key injuries and we are potentially the worst team in the league.

With Mayfield, if we don’t make the playoffs (very possible), Rhule’s gone. No rookie development can save him.

Dude rookie qbs lighting the stat sheet up are very rare, you really don’t want to bet on a 3rd round rookie saving the day. Also, my least concern is Rhule saving his job dude. I understand where your coming from and I wish we had traded for Baker prior to the draft but for what we gave up it’s a great trade.

That’s my problem with the trade. IMHO, it just makes you realize how bad we’ve been and continue to be at building a team. I mean look at how many OL we passed over who’ve been studs and how even with 2 FAs and the #6 pick, still have two question marks in 2023, all because until this off-season we didn’t think OL mattered. Just like we thought we could make the playoffs with a retread QB, now in year 3 of said retread strategy. Checkers indeed.

At this point, I don't really think there are too many of us left who have high expectations of Rhule or his strategic planning.

clown show franchise and now everyone is teeing off on us

You realize 2 of the 4 posts you quoted are compliments?  One calls us a playoff team (which I'm not sure I agree with) and the other says Baker is about to light the Browns on fire week 1.

For maybe one or two games before we see how bad he is and we're banging our heads against the wall or coming up with excuses for him.

Sheer desperation move and you'd think we have learned better than to go digging through dumpsters to find our QB.

The we lost $5 million this year and a 5th round (or later) pick next year and will probably get a higher comp pick for letting him become a FA as @CanadianCatstated.  Super low risk move by us.

I think Baker will do well here. He shaved his contract so he's probably got a gentlemans agreement that if he does well this season we will give him the big bag.

I think he has some performance incentives in his contract. How do you put them in someone’s contract, he has to be starting.

2 of those tweets are postive, one is a meme, and the other is joke about Baker dissing cleveland. Not sure how we are being teed off on...

Especially the one about how we are a Playoffs team with "2020 Baker" ... when many on this board want 2015 Cam to have one more shot lol.

We would have paid a lot more in picks and cash.  With Corral in the stable, we had  more leverage.  Grabbing Corral first got us  Baker on the cheap, which is the way it should be.

We're going to find how good Baker is with less help.

Baker is QB1 for 2022

Corral projects to be QB1 for 2023

Let the rookie who has room to grow, learn in the film room, under minimal expectations and a year to adjust to the speed of the NFL.

We're paying $24M for our starting QB. Not great.....but by no means the worst. Baker is a bit better than Darnold and with a chip on his shoulder, is a win-win for us. If Baker is as awful as everyone thinks, we're barely out any assets, and Rhule is for sure not here beyond 2022.

But like I told LG elsewhere, at least the guy who's constantly predicting Newton is coming back and having an MVP season is probably gonna be down for the count after this.

Nah. He, like Cooter used to do, will flood every game day thread about Cam if Baker plays poorly. Luckily we can all now talk about Corral instead of Cam if Baker poos the bed! The new era is here!
