Baker Mayfield is a Carolina Panther

I have seen nothing that makes me think Mayfield is ever going to be anything other than mediocre, but I don't hate this deal and you just never know. Maybe a change of scenery and getting out of Cleveland will be the spark he needs.

Ever hear 3rd times a charm? Fact is we have to keep swingin on QBs, thats the reality.

We literally just fuging drafted one in the 3rd, one that we supposedly had a first round grade on.  We are not magically going to make mayfield a franchise qb, it just aint happening

I wouldn't say waste just yet. 5 million + 5th rounder is not a big investment in a QB, especially on the last year of his deal. We'll see what this upcoming season brings and re-visit next offseason.

That's short term thinking.

So after this year, you either have to extend Baker for starting QB money, or you have to go into 2023 with Corral as essentially a rookie after getting very few reps in 2022.

Thats just creating more headaches and pissing away more draft picks

C’mon, we are only paying that because the Browns covered $10.5M and Mayfield knew we were one of two places he could be the starter.

Darnold wasn’t a threat to developing Corral. Mayfield absolutely is. He’s not here to help Corral at all, he’s here for the next deal.

I was excited for this year to see Corral and the new OL. Now, not as much. We’ll be more competitive but unless Baker makes a huge turnaround, we very likely will have zero clue what we have in Corral which is not smart going into the supposedly good 2023 QB draft.

Corall starting this year would be pure desperation, he’s a third round rookie qb. Unless he is a miracle then we would just be giving up this year, our team is talented enough for the playoffs. Baker is the best qb we’ve had in the past 5 years. Also, our staff gets to watch Corall in camp and gets a year with him so they would be much more educated then us if he’s ready or not.

Yea that's honestly what I'm most concerned about.  It's the opportunity cost of playing Mayfield for a season, and perhaps not seeing what we have in Corral at all.

It gives them the opportunity to pivot later. Hopefully Baker works out and it solves itself all together. Better than Sam sucking for two games and then throwing an underdeveloped Corral out there to salvage the season.
