I said "maybe both". I wouldn't expect it to be both but I don't rule it out. What if they've decided to cut bait on TMJ and then they get a trade offer on Robby they can't refuse? We'd still have DJ, Shenault, Shi Smith, Higgins, and Zylstra (assuming Higgins and Zylstra are still in the roster, I haven't been following the cuts). Would it really be that hard to find a TMJ level replacement on the waiver wire for a 6th WR?

I think they did find TMJ's replacement in Shenault.  It's not a big deal to me but they would be going into the season with only DJ and a bunch of jags at wr knowing the playbook.  Kinda risky at this point but whatever.

This just doesn’t seem to make sense to me. Maybe teams called us but I don’t think we are actively seeking trade partners.

Nor do I but I wouldn't be mad if we traded TMJ if the price is right. I'd prefer to keep Zystra over him at this point but I don't get to see what he does or doesn't do when he actually practices but Zystra we at least know can make some plays in a real game.

If we traded Robbie we get a $9M dead cap hit and only save $1M. Really don't see that happening. Unless it was for a legit DE, which why would a team do that

How does that work? I thought when a player was traded the contract went with them. Is it because of a bonus that was paid?

Not a cap guy, but as I understand it, bonuses that are spread out accelerate (i.e. they have to be paid all at once) when a player is traded.

Sometimes teams agree to take on part of a cap hit either to move the player or acquire him.

I don't think you impulsively cut ties with a talented highly drafted second-year player unless they've proven on the field that they don't belong in the NFL.  You don't cut one because of a single injury-riddled season.  By all accounts, TMJ has been performing very well in camp and at least in some kind of game setting (rookie preseason).

If he has another season like last year?  Then yeah, I think it's harder to justify committing a roster position and so you cut your losses and move on at that point.

Bonuses paid out are already received.  The cap charge is accelerated. So if it is spread out, like for instance say player A gets a 6 million signing bonus and it got spread over say 3 years as 2 mil a year then the 6 mil cap hit will be accelerated to this season.  In some cases the team could spread the hit over 2 years in cases where the hit is large. That's all I get out of it.

    • I hope he finds his lane in year 2.  Now that we signed Walker, I'm really intrigued how Dan feels about the DL. Is there a piece there in R1 that presents value/BPA and fills a void for one of the spots w/ DB and Wharton.  I'll give Wharton another year to show us why he was signed here. With A'Shawn gone, I don't think BBIII is it.  Our edges are set and our LBs are balanced. Horn/Mike Jack and Moehrig will hold the secondary together. DB is, well...DB.  However, I think this is an area that is the biggest question mark right now. I see 1 of 3 spots that are locked and loaded for us. If we move to a 4 down front, I assume Phillips would slide down to be the additional linemen, but we still have questions about the other two spots in either scheme.  I'd feel better with a tradeback, but I do wonder how McDonald would do here. Maybe Woods....but McDonald really does peek my interest.  Or, can Jackson take that next step. The coaching staff speaks highly of him for what little he played. Here's hoping he stays healthy and comes into TC with something to prove. There's a spot to be taken, here's hoping he takes it.
    • Not many people talking about DT, but we have a need.  (DE)  Now this guy is a NT like Brown III
