Can we officially declare TMJ a bust?

Bc we didn’t need to…. We didn’t run enough offensive plays to sit DJ or Robbie. Our offense only had 45 total plays.

our longest drive was barely 5 minutes. There just wasn’t a point to sub out DJ or Robbie bc they were the best players at their position and were well rested due to the lack of play opportunities.

Shi Smith got 41 snaps

so yeah, you would think in Bakers first start with guys he doesn’t have a lot of experience/chemistry with…a week 1 game plan would have intentionally worked Higgins in for a snap or two.   Give him the one guy on the roster he actually knows some.   And Baker clearly wasn’t comfortable out there.

Pick a random team.  Giants barely played more snaps than us last week. They weren’t working out of 2 personnel looks and only running the same 3 WRs all game.  They had twice as many WRs on the field.

Let's see how it all plays out. I was unimpressed by the game we played this past Sunday, maybe we'll see some new wrinkles and he might be more active.

We know as little about what is going on on the practice fields and meeting rooms of the Panthers as we know about little green men in flying saucers. We're just riffing on what we think we see and what we think we ought to know.

Also, decisions by this coaching staff often prove to be poorly made. Make of that what you will.

Him and Robbie have similar skill set so the only way he see snaps is if one of those top two get injured. I’m guessing he can’t play the slot which his fault

He has played a ton of slot over the course of his career with Baker.  He can play them all.

I’m suspicious a lot of these Rhule guys are going to end up elsewhere and have productive, not necessarily spectacular, careers.

you don’t need hall of famers: you just need guys that can produce. That’s what killed us during the hurney years. We’d have entire drafts after the first round of guys that would never earn a second contract.

at least with hurney we got the all pro first rounder.

I actually don't think that. I honestly think they are going to end up with the majority of them being just bad picks.

I don't think they know how to identify and more importantly develop successful NFL traits for players.

We will see.

It's not looking good, but I think with pro level coaches, a lot of these guys would be producing like crazy.  Too bad we likely won't know what that looks like for awhile.  Even if they were being coached up and developed, we wouldn't know because the production on gamedays is hindered by the guy managing the gamedays and turning them into complete fuging trainwrecks.

it's little things.  Like BC last year, Rhule painfully put him on the field when forced and argued against things with silly nonsense.  BC comes back this offseason with Rhule not really seeing him and suddenly Rhule now says he is one of our best guys that has to be on the field.  There was no real time for that narrative to change so quick.  It was obvious BC should of gotten more work last year and be even further along today than he is if he had.  And he looks like a promosing OL asset.

Matt Rhule makes everything hard.  Giving Baker the job was easy.  He made it hard.

Even though the entire reason for him being drafted both never manifested and is no longer here (familiarity with Brady's system theoretically meant he should have been able to contribute right away), I think it's a little too early to declare him a bust. He's in a new system and has been injury prone.

If there's no improvement throughout the year and he isn't looking any better in year 3, time to cut ties.

fwiw, the only people saying that Rhule should have just dubbed Baker the starter are fans and media folks that butter their bread with hot takes.

Football players, coaches, etc all seem agree that having Baker come in and compete the job was for the best as it allowed him to earn the job in front of his teammates (and therefore their respect, avoiding any locker room bullshit that could have resulted).

I was fine letting Baker compete in Spartanburg.  He did that.   Rhule carried it pointlessly long.  That's Matt Rhule.

and when you carry a competition too long, one that clearly isn't actually a competition at some point.....everyone sees that too.

The options weren't give him the job the day he signed the contract or run it all the way until the 4th preseason game.
