TOUGH QUESTION OF THE NIGHT: Name one area on the team that has improved under Rhule

statistically, isn’t Rhule the worst in the 3rd quarter out of Fox, Ron and Rhule?

the point differential in the 3rd I think is comically bad under Rhule I thought?

I know that was true last year, but Ron made zero halftime adjustments no matter what. He always stubbornly stuck to his original plan. At least with Rhule you see some attempt at adjustments, and year one and this year they were improvements. Last year the third quarter was always poo for whatever reason

Nothing.... improvement is shown in W-L record...

There's aquote by former NFL head coach Bill Parcells that says, "You are what your record says you are.

Under Rhule for the past two seasons we have been a 5 win team, which is what we were in Rivera's last year with the team.

So no, we haven't shown ANY IMPROVEMENT where it matters...on the won/lost record

defense played well, secondary is the best we’ve had in a while. ron didn’t believe in DBs. OL is the best we’ve had in a long time. people bitched for years that we didn’t address the LT. now we did, and people still bitch. don’t give me the crap about how he sucks. he’s played well for a rookie in one of the more difficult positions on the field. look at how well BC has developed. now extrapolate that to icky + BC, and the OL is solid.

Ron didn't believe in DBs! Some of the best defensive backs in the history of the Panthers played under Rivera! They were rarely out of position save that one Atlanta game. Ron didn't have final say over roster moves like Rhule, so he had to work with whatever Gettleman and Hurney got him or left him with after contract negotiations(JNo). The main example being the coaching staff wanted D. Adams and S. Diggs. Guess what nipple shorts did? You remember KB and Funchess right? Rhule would've got those two receivers which is exactly why the roster has been littered with Temple and Baylor rejects over his tenure.

The rest, I totally agree with ya dude.

In some respects it feels unfair to Ron to ask how this team has improved since his final year, because the writing was largely on the wall going into that year.  I'd say that over Ron's tenure the strong units did fluctuate quite a bit but the weakest unit was WR consistently, and I think that group is stronger now for sure. The overall offense is just such ass it hardly matters.

No fuging way. They got their asses kicked last year after half time every game because they didn’t make adjustments.

No OL, + Darnold, I can't blame last year but so much in that particular dept.

I am not a Rhule apologist, that's just the facts, we didn't really have the roster to adjust on offense due to such a poor OL.

I'd say the roster as a whole has improved, I don't think that could really be denied, the issue is the coaching at this point seems to hold the roster back.

The personnel decisions like not playing TMJ / Higgins, keeping Donte' vs paying for Gilmore or Reddick when we have CJ and Jaycee on rookie deals still.

Starting Elf over Boze, and to be fair Elf looked better at C, than LG last year and it has continued into this one. Erving over Brady for so long last year at LT.

The ''competitions'' in TC wasting time to build chemistry / install the offense with the guys who would actually be on the field on gameday, NO ONE expected Sam to be announced as the starter. IMO that was Rhule trying to save face for a guy IMO he hand picked as Fitterer had only been here roughly 3 to 4 months before that trade was executed.

It gets weird a little with Ron's teams and the receiving corps vs today.  Given TE.  I think we have nice depth but a lot of that nice depth has really just potential that could look different down the road.  I mean, if you look at 2011-2022 I am not certain this is the best our receiving corps has ever been.  Especially when looking at the top of it.

89, Olsen, Ginn, LaFell? I'd take that over what we have today.

I'd take 89, Olsen, Shockey, LaFell too.

Tbqh I said WR for a reason, versus receiving corps. I'd love to see 2015 Cam with this group.  I think it's better than the 2013 group, which is probably the best Cam probably ever had.

Receiving corps is different because we have nothing close to Olsen... But do have CMC...

    • Is it true jack plummer was the first guy they hurry up and signed??? I have heard people say this.
    • Weren't Icky and Grier both Panthers fans too?
    • I didn’t like this draft at all. XL, our first pick had one good season out of five and doesn’t have burst off the line.  I wanted Ladd here because I think he’d have been a much better pairing for BY9s weak arm.  We need to be an excellent west coast style offense if Bryce is gonna shine.  A burner that takes 3 steps to get moving and doesn’t separate at the line is a bad choice IMO. I don’t even want to talk about drafting a RB after having Foreman make us feel better about trading CMC only to send him packing and give Sanders top FA money last year to fall on his face.  We always try to get cute and find value.  The fact that we were the first team to take a RB (one recovering from a serious injury no less) tells you we didn’t get the memo 31 other teams got.  RB has a huge role in protection responsibility, it’s a huge reason some great backs are situational…they suck in protection.  A rookie RB helping protect BY doesn’t warm my heart.  We should have taken the top C on the board here IMO. LB and yet another project TE that’ll probably just frustrate us all for how long he hangs around seemingly doing nothing.  Then a bunch of dice rolls that aren’t changing any fortune unless it’s a complete accident. TLDR This whole draft looks like JAGs to me at best.  I don’t like the XL or JB picks at all.  Always happy to be wrong when I have a negative take.
