Are you serious? With Ben McAdoo and PJ Walker? If you went into this game with expectations of any kind that's on you.  This is a no win situation for any head coach.  Bill Belicheat couldn't fix this sh*t mid-season.

I'm not asking him to fix it - I'm asking him to play to win.

That sequence before half-time when he let the Rams bleed 1.30 off the clock whilst sat on 3 TOs. Criminal.

Calling a time out on the Rams in the 4th Q down by 2 scores when on the previous drive you'd run a RB draw on 3rd and forever? Clown show.

Wilks "ain't " what, exactly? What in theee hell are you weirdos expecting? This team is bad. The culture is bad. The qb room is a damn disaster and has been for 3+years, but you all are bitching about an ostensibly lame duck coach.

This is HIS shot to coach his home town Panthers - a team he purportedly loves.

He literally has nothing to lose - go balls out. Even Rivera pulled out the Riverboat nonsense when he knew his job was on the line.

My son was like, "Why aren't we calling a time out?" He said that on the Rams third and long. I replied, "Because if we stop them we can use our three timeouts to go down and try to score."

I FULLY expected us to do the normal, sensical thing that coaches do. Man, my mouth about fell open when we took the pus-err "conservative" route.

Regardless of all the obvious excuses that one can muster for Wilks' performance, I haven't seen anything that makes me think that Wilks is head coaching material.

Game-specific coaching sounds good and actually is good for coaches that know how to do it. Game planning around your strengths and the opposition's weaknesses is smart, but playing to your opponent's weaknesses just enough to keep them in the game, playing not to lose, and especially coddling a small lead in the first half or even the third and fourth quarters when your team is struggling offensively seems to be simply dumb. It speaks to situational play calling.

Speaking of play calling...game planning...setting up a plan to just run and screen-pass (yes I'm using it as a verb) your way through the game and expect to win. Any defense worth its salt is going to figure you out because you're making things easy for them. You should be using the run to set up the pass and pass to set up the run. You must take some shots down the field to have any credibility.  Talking about going to the well ten too many times.

Lol wills was never it. His last job was defensive coordinator at Missouri. Anyone who had any hope of him being it is completely lost and should keep it to themself.

you want to see David Tepper completely destroy this franchise? Then hire Steve wilks after this season ends.

I’m certainly not going to pass judgment on Wills after one game, but a lot of the time when a HC gets fired and an assistant is put in his place, players go hard and try to play for him. That certainly didn’t happen today, and in his first game he had to separate a player from a coach while screaming at both and send the player home mid-game. That’s not a good sign but poo happens.

    • Nobody is saying we don't need it, just that we have bigger needs elsewhere, and that type of WR is actually something that is often found in the mid rounds, you just have to scout and evaluate properly. Here's another way of looking at why WR in the 1st shouldn't even be considered an option. Looking only at players currently on the team, what position group would you feel strongest about 4 years from now? I'm not sure there is a better answer there than WR, as you have to think T-Mac is our best player on the team in 4 years (Brown is the only current player I think there is even an argument to be made over T-Mac there), with Coker not far behind. Our OL is too old to be considered, my opinions on Bryce is well known, Hubbard will be done by then and the rest of the RB is an unknown, Off-ball LB is maybe our biggest need, we only have 1 legit safety, it's certainly not TE, and our 2nd best CB right now will be 33 by then.   Brown should still be a beast as he'll only be 31, but nobody else on the DL projects to be that good in 4 years.  Edge rusher with Phillips, Scourton, and Princely is probably the only other possible answer than WR. So yes, that fast/shifty type of WR is 100% a need of ours, but we have so many other bigger needs both in the immediate and future, that to me, taking a WR in the 1st for the 3rd year in a row and having hit on another WR in the same time frame, just makes zero sense both currently and looking into the future.
    • Laughing at Slayton (Mooney or Calvin Austin III), but telling me that Coker is the next best thing since sliced bread...You laughing at Theo Johnson in reference to our guys too? LOL No one in their right mind thinks Nabers is anything but a stud (definitely top 10 if not 5 potential). You do realize that Thomas was in a new system with a furst-time coach last year (with a questionable QB to boot)? And yet still, it's possible that he eclipses even T-mac (not saying that he will). They didn't even mention Travis Hunter. In any event, we're not in the top half. Draft another legit receiver, and we will be.
    • Absolutely, very fair assessment of the team.
