Who wants to see what he can do with the offensive line and run game now actually looking like an NFL group? Without Rhule and Brady, I'd be inclined to give Darnold a shot to prove himself again. If we aren't going for the playoffs this year, generate trade bait or see what you have heading into 2023.

why?

How does that work exactly?   Trade deadline is tomorrow.   Jesus Christ people

No.

Sam is still Sam.   He has been Sam since college.   He has always been Sam.  Bad OL play doesn't make Sam bad Sam.  That's just Sam.

Good OL play will just give him more opportunities to be bad.  We don't need to see anything.  We don't want to resign Sam or Baker.   Why would you want a fools gold game to sucker your team into that mistake.

PJ is the only guy they should consider.  And PJ would be brought in as the 2/3.

Darnold is pretty much a lost cause.  He had three years prior to walking into this fiasco, and he looked much the same.  Not that the Jets were exactly a QB incubator, but he has shown next to nothing for his part of five seasons.

Even if you are of the mindset that Darnold has spent five years under horrible circumstances, once a QB gets that far into their career showing no real progress and making the same mistakes, teams assume that is not ingrained.

At least Mayfield had one good season to point to, so when he is done here somebody might look at him as a backup or a "sleeper" if they have an aging vet as a starter.  That would not be us.  I don't know who would think that about Darnold.

PJ is very likely to lose the job to Baker or Sam down the stretch, so we will probably see one or both of them. If not, no reason to give either of these dudes a chance over him just because.

Good luck on other teams Baker and Sam.

The longer PJ starts the less likely we'll see Baker and ever Sam again. That 4th round pick is enough incentive to not play Baker again.

How long did Geno Smith have and look what he's doing now.

Would you want to bet money on that happening again?  Using the rare exception to set a course of action is like basing your retirement plans on winning the lottery.

It’s done all the time on this board.  Hoping for the exception to the rule when the analytics are staring you in the face is no way to run a football program or go through life even.

    • I would be quite surprised if he got more than a fine. Flopping has long been out of hand in the NBA. There were definitely some Heat players doing extra selling fouls. LaMelo seems to be getting quite a bit of hate on social media for the Bam injury though. And it is fair to wonder how the next opponent might defend him going forward knowing what happened. I don't think we can just be homers and dismiss it entirely especially after all the complaints we've made about the Pistons in particular. I think this group better be prepared for a very physical game on Friday.
    • When you look closely at the play it was careless from Melo but bang bang full speed I don’t think it was intentional or dirty or deserving of a foul. Bam’s off balance momentum was already carrying him towards a fall and even if Melo didn’t touch him it may have had the exact same outcome. And honestly I think he did try to sell it more when he felt LaMelo’s hand. Dudes arms flopped back instead of bracing for the fall. Sucks he got hurt but a suspension would be ridiculous and an awful look for the league. Fine and move on
