Yep. The Texans need to do what the Browns did, and save the Panthers from themselves.

Poorly run teams make poor decisions. Texans poor choice could make it easier for us to make a better choice. Problem we have is that we are a poorly run organization as well.

I've got a feeling it's not going to be if we shoot ourselves in the foot, but just how badly we do it.

This has been the recurring theme of the Tepper era. The thought of a new QB and new coaching staff is both exciting and dread inducing since there's zero indications we'll choose wisely and ample indication we'll blunder colossally.

Why are we talking about drafting another young QB when we have Corral  on the roster?  Sure, he's unproven right now - but couldn't we build around him?   Or do you want a 2nd young QB to partner with him and build from there?

  • Odds are there will be a new HC that will want his own guy.
  • Corral was a mid round pick in a bad QB draft. Even in this draft, he wouldn't be talked about as a top guy.
  • And most importantly, the fans need something to hope for. A bright shiny new first round QB gives that to them more than anything else does.

I hope for David Tepper to quit fuging up constantly. That's what the Panthers really need.

We gotta stop thinking we can find a quick fix. Take the guy we think can become the best NFL QB, not necessarily the guy we think will be the best rookie QB.

Richardson is a project that has a very large likelihood of not being ever completed, so taking him in the top 10 would likely be a massive mistake. Not to mention a player like that would be in desperate need of a good QB coach to help them develop properly. That will be the same with any project QB with a steeper learning curve.

So the questions to answer are(in order):

1. Is there a surefire franchise QB(or QB's) available?

2. Is there a developmental QB prospect worth taking in the top 10?

3. Is there a top end project QB(or QB's) that you don't consider top 10 draft worthy?

You basically adjust your draft strategy around that if you are a QB desperate team the way that we are. The lower end options also include having to resort to a stop gap FA option.....again.

I would take Richardson after the top ten. The only QB I would take in the top ten is Young. He has the skills, arm, and is already being looked at as a star. Yes, his size is a concern, but the NFL will protect him.
