Why did we ever acquire him to begin with.

Of the vet post-Cam QB moves we've made this is the one I have the least issue with by far. We didn't give up much and the Browns picked up the majority of the salary cap tab. It was worth the shot we took IMO. No, it didn't work out but a low value trade and cap hit for Baker Mayfield was and always will be a better roll of the dice than paying Teddy like a legit starter or trading real assets to acquire Darnold and immediately doubling down on that move by picking up his 5th year option.

Eh I guess that’s fair. But it just proved the systemic problems even more.

In any case, there's no leverage since the trade deadline passed. We'd just be holding on to him to be petty at this point. We're not gonna play him or resign him, might as well let him go.

The original point of my comment was in reference to 49ers calling us and asking us to let him go as an IOU. In that case would have leverage.

    • Nina King continues to run circles around the rest of college basketball. She's been ahead of the curve on everything, and is the biggest reason for Duke's success post-K IMO. I think Scheyer is great at many things, but Duke went into the NIL era 100% ready whereas everyone else was playing catchup.
    • Happy they won convincingly instead of letting them hang around. Montreal is cooked, and rather than play hockey, they've decided to take some really cheap shots at guys. I get a player may feel a need to set the tone, and I understand how that works. But to 2-hand cross check someone intentionally in the face, to have a guy down on the ice and put his head into the ice with a stick, to just start punching anyone who gets within arm's reach- that's not setting the tone. That is nothing short of playing dirty.  That said, the Canes.... oh boy. They could have run this score to 6-0 with half a power play. It's embarrassing how bad the PP is. If the Canes go to the Cup finals against a team who scores at least 1 goal per game on the PP, they'll lose the close games because of the lack of results on the PP.
    • Because he knows they are winning the cup. And I fully support his decision.
