Even riding the Wilks momentum, my concern was still if everything worked out and we hired a superstar OC, the issue is the offense is always going to have turnover because if he's worth his salt he will get hired away.  And offense is always harder to scheme than defense is for a DC.  Most defensive concepts are simple, but the best DCs know how and when to use them.  OCs dictate the game by and large, and they have the ability to get a lot more creative with their concepts and designs, whoch makes their schemes harder to replicate because theyre like fingerprints with all the moving parts and ability to move and use them.  OCs dictate.  Period.  OCs and offensive coaches are proactive, whereas most DCs and defensive coaches are REactive.  And that has always been our kryptonite since our inception...  we are always reacting and back on our heels instead of being assertive and proactive.  Cam was the one, very short reprieve from that, and not becaude of ingenious coaching, but because he wa s a fuging force of nature.  But, that's why we need an offensive coach.

And again, there's a long history of lifelong DCs that are great at what they do and never go on to become HCs or fail when they get the chance...  even superstar DCs like Jim Johnson and Dick LeBeau who were exceptions of the profession in that they dictated games with their aggressive styles were not heavily sought after as head coaches.  Defensive schemes are replicable. Even the best ones, and even if you have a superstar DC that does eventually get hired away, you can usually do a good enough job replicating what they did.  That's not the case with OCs.  Good ones that can implement creative, unique schemes where guys are seemingly getting wide open every play or running free - once you lose them, they can't be replaced.  That is the guy we need at head coach.

Still pisses me off that we kept Rhule's fuging dumbass around another year instead of getting Daboll.  Sure, the Lions' and Eagles' OCs are cool, but they don't seem as ingenious as Daboll is and had shown himself to be for years before the Giants hired him.  Also, the Lions and Eagles have had some stinkers as of late, so I don't feel as confident about them.  poo is just frustrating. 

Anyway, it's been real Wilks, but thank you for reminding us why defensive coaches aren't the way to go.  Those two punts from midfield may have costed you the job and ended our season, but it was painful reminder that needed to be had now before we got caught up in our feelings.

Look at McDermott and the Buffalo situation.  Possibly the exception to the rule?  Don't get me wrong, I want an offensive guru to be our next HC and get away from the stubborn, stodgy, you-can-win-14-to-10, antiquated, conservative, ghost of Jerry Richardson, John Fox/Ron Rivera clone.  But how many Sean McVay's are just sitting around waiting for an HC job?  And would they want to be handcuffed to Darnold, Corral, or who we might be able to get in FA or mid-first round draft?

McD, Belichick, and Tomlin are definitely exceptions to the rule.  And look at how the latter two are now faring without HOF QBs and somewhat quality OCs.

Any good OC will believe they can turn chicken poo into chicken salad, no matter what we already have here.  Look at what Sirriani did in Philly when he was hired.  I don't know that their roster was any more appealing than what we have now.

Yeah, but Leftwich is highly regarded, and is also likely to become HC somewhere in the near future.  That team is going to be going through it when Leftwich and Brady leave.

I’ve stated the entire time that Wilks had to get us to the playoffs in order for me to want us to keep him. We have had seasons like this before and as with this season, fallen short right at the end again. 
 

Wilks needed to Prove he was different imo, and winning the division would have proved that. Most of Wilks’s  success this season came from the Fact that he knew how to coach an NFL team and players vs Matt Rhule who didn’t have a fuging clue as to what he was doing. We could’ve gotten this result with any halfway decent NFL coach. Wilks while doing a good job this season and a huge upgrade over Rhule is easily replaceable imo.

if he does some how end up keeping the job, I won’t be mad. Just disappointed we didn’t try to do better.

He made the season interesting and brought meaningful football to January for us. Nice.

Now to find a coach that has us playing in February....

      To start with, you wouldn’t want to count up that value chart. You would see quickly where that is headed. But you basically did a quantity comparison, while ignoring quality.  I am looking at 2023 as the start, because it became all about Bryce.  2023 you have 4 picks plus DJ Moore for offense vs 2 (80 and 145) for defense.  2024 you got the 1st overall, the 32, the 46 and the 101 for offense vs 72, 157, 200 and 240 for defense. Leave the FA IOL out of it. Which was a crazy big  investment. But it wasn’t draft.  Anyway, that is basically 4 top 100 picks for offense and 4 picks for defense in 2024. Except they were 2 first rounders, the second rounder, and the 4th was really high at 101. Vs 72 and day three stuff. Please….  Second quoted/bolded… See you think we hate Bryce. That isn’t it at all. It is nice easy way to characterize us and discredit our talking points though.   Me, I do mostly hate watching him play. But I don’t hate the person. I hate the hell out of the stanning.  It started with the very first question I asked about his footwork, arm strength, and size. Height being the principle objection. I never even got to the durability factor. There was plenty without factoring that in.  But there was rabid opposition to even asking the question of what a couple of small fractions of a second extra closing time would do for the defenders.  What the extra time it takes to flip the hips would do vs a pass rush or on the other end after the ball is in the air. Split second more for recognition where it is going for the DBs.  The tippy toe backpedal.  That poo was a mess and it has always been mess but no Bryce fan wanted to hear it. “Go get another team to root for”. “It worked in the SEC it will be fine in the NFL you don’t know football you are just a hater”.  It got worse when the real games started. It has never stopped. It is nice that many people have left that train so there is less abuse but it hasn’t stopped.  So whatever…

      Whatever school you attended, I don't know and I don't care, but I would suggest demanding a refund.    Something was completely missed there.

      The draft capital since since 2023 has in no way been pretty even.  Especially when you zero in on day 1 and day 2 draft picks.  Draft capital has vastly gone toward the O over D.
