Steve Smith didn't make the HOF cut??

Looks like 89 didn't make the finals for NFL Hall of Fame this year.  His career stats are stellar, he was clear team leader, and deserves the recognition, right?  Did he piss off too many NFL honchos, does he not resonate outside Carolina, what's the deal?

I have never seen a WR strike that much fear in an opposing defense and singlehandedly take so much pride in wrecking a cornerback physically as well as mentally. He should have been a finalist. What a complete crock of poo!

He's got an uphill climb. There are 3 receivers among the 15 finalists (Torry Holt, Reggie Wayne and Andre Johnson) so at minimum he's gotta hope they all get enshrined and then build some momentum.

I really don’t get Andre Johnson over Smith. I guess Reggie Wayne will automatically make it one day but it feels like BS when these WRs have HoF QBs almost their entire career

The problem is the first ballot Hof thinking being the best hofers. I theory there is no such thing, but in reality it is so the voter are tougher the first year.

So this year it is Smith vs being close to the best ever. Next year it is vs the other guys.

Still shitty, Delhomme throw stuff up for grabs for the receiver to do the job and that was the best QB he had for any time. His numbers are absurd given that.

Agent89 will get in.  His stats speak for themselves.  But it was always an uphill battle this year.  I'm disappointed for him, but not concerned.

Johnson was a part of one of the most infamous scraps in the NFL and made the cut. So likely no…

It’s absurd. He should have made it over Johnson, of course the HOF stuff is a joke, didn’t it take Tim Brown a few tries to get in?

Honestly both Torry Holt and Andre Johnson are head scratchers getting the nod over 89. I could make an argument against Reggie but his numbers are at least closer to 89.

I don't want to hear poo about Super Bowls with Calvin Johnson not only getting in but getting in 1st Ballot. Even if that was the reason then how do we justify Andre Johnson getting a nod over Smith? 

Are we going off pro bowl selections now? Is that or is it not a glorified popularity contest?

Obviously I'm a homer and I'm not going to pretend that I'm not... but trying to look at this objectively - It just doesn't make a ton of sense to me to be honest.

Each team has a sportswriter who speaks on behalf of their candidates as the field is winnowed down to the finalists. Steve's record is among the best ever. I can only think that this year our team's representative didn't make as strong of a case or some internal politicking squeezed him out. Doesn't seem quite cricket that he was there last year and not this year. 

And next year, won't Julius Peppers be eligible? Which one gets the better speech on his behalf?
