I think it makes too much sense for both sides to give a cap friendly extension to Shaq that keeps him in Carolina for a couple years but at a fraction of the cost. I doubt Shaq wants to pack up and leave, especially since there's unlikely to be a massive payday in free agency.

The guaranteed money in Shaq's contract is $11.3 million. Add 2 years and round up to $18 million to turn it into a 3 year contract at $6 million per. You give him an extra $7 million compared to cutting him outright and cut his cap hit to about 1/3 of the current. Shaq may take that to not have to uproot his life and gain some job security for at least a couple more years. Maybe it takes a couple million more but even that's probably preferable to an $11 million dead cap hit and having to replace his production.

Shaq has to be released or extended. That cap hit is untenable. I'd like to keep him but he needs to be paid like what he is - a decent starting LB.

I think Shaq will be extended honestly. Org likes him I’m sure. As far as overpaid players go he’s not the worst.

I could see him favoring a release and he could move back towards the west coast. But could he fetch more on the open market than just getting a small extension here?

I think Shaq will be given the option of taking a pay cut, doubt it happens tho.

Cam Erving, Michael Jordan, Sam Darnold, Josh Norman, Andre Roberts, Matt Ioannidis, Rashard Higgins.  Very likely PJ Walker.  Possibly Shaq Thompson and JJ Jansen.  I know a bunch didn't play today, but these are guys who were on the roster that will not/possibly wont be back next year.

Andre Roberts had 6 punt returns this season and fumbled on 3 of them
