Why would we, really?

I guess the announcement came more of a surprise than the actual fact it was taking place so soon. I get why they are doing it but I would've thought they would have let Wilks have time to get out of the bathroom before they announced they had already setup the interview schedule. I don't know, this whole thing has just been one weird series of events altogether.

Regarding Wilks, Person says his plans for the offensive side of the ball will be the biggest key to his interview.

More specifically, Person believes any notion of keeping Ben McAdoo as his OC won't fly.

If you want this team to be about offense then you need to hire an offensive HC. A good OC is probably gonna get poached.

thats my main deal with wilks- two coaches should stay- tabor and campy. *BUT this isnt his staff, AL is his DC.....and the D is MUCh worse under his watch than 3-3-5 phil snow........ and if wilks remains, so would Al as DC..... so Im hoping it doesnt happen...

Wilks has had to put feelers out to other coaches during the last feel weeks, right? I mean if not for here, he's bound to get interviews elsewhere now.

Jim Caldwell is someone I thought could be an interesting OC pairing with Wilks even before news of him interviewing for the HC came out. I wonder if Wilks may have floated the name to Tepper and they are interviewing him as "HC" just to see if his ideas gel with what Tepper/Wilks want to do.

Wonder if that will come up in the interview? Wonder if Tepper and Fitt will actually acknowledge the defense is worse and that Holcomb will not be the DC?

A lot of assumptions that only work if Wilks got the job. He hasn’t and he will not.

Thats one of my biggest issues. Plus if youre dead set on removing OC and DC......just add the HC as well.......The HC was a "defense" guy and the defense getting worse each passing week, huge deal for me.

Think about it- old college coach was much better than YOUR handed picked DC at two different teams..... plus thats your specialty??

There are limits on his ability to talk to currently employed NFL guys, but rules wouldn't stop him from talking to a guy like Caldwell.

(or Reich, for that matter)

Who would Wilks tab for his OC & DC? I think Campen and Tabor stay, but clean house on most other position coaches.

These hires would have to be a make or break for Wilks.

I just don’t know connections or who Wilks would like. A guy like Brian Johnson probably follows Steichen….maybe Bevell in MIA gets another opportunity to be OC?

    • Just another 1st round QB that never paid off for the team that drafted them or traded for them. It's been like this since the SB began. 36 QBs have now won the SB & only 13 of them have been 1st rounders winning with their original team. Namath 1968, Griese 1972, Bradshaw 1974, McMahon 1985, Simms 1986, Aikman 1992, Elway 1997, Roethlisberger 2005, P.Manning 2006, E.Manning 2007, Rodgers 2010, Flacco 2012, & Mahomes 2019. Only 3 have taken longer than 5 seasons as the starter to win a SB.  4  6  5  4  6  4  15  2  9  4  3  5  2 [the years it takes for these 1st round QBs] 5  1  4  1  3  1  1  2  3  4  [10 of the 36 have won a chip with their 1st team that haven't been drafted in the 1st round. These are the years it took them as a starter] What stands out? Only 2 of these QBs have lost their first championship appearance. Elway took 4 years as a 1st rounder & Hurts took 2 years as a 2nd rounder. Of the 10 non-1st round QBs, 2 are 2nd rounders, 3 are 3rd rounders, 5 are 6th rounders or later. Please stop wasting time on drafting 1st round QBs with such a high failure rate. The remaining 13 QBs are traded or free agent signings. Stafford, Favre, Young, Williams and Dawson are the 5 trades. Peyton Manning & Tom Brady also won for teams as free agents on a short stay as well as being drafted. The lesson here is don't waste your franchise on farming up 1st rounders for the league, and steer clear of trading for a franchise QB. Stick to finding that championship QB by drafting them outside of the 1st round or through free agency.
    • I lost most of the respect I had for Fox in 2010. He should have resigned if he hated the job that much. Instead he stuck for his paycheck and let stuff go to hell.    I burned out on Ron too but my deal breaker issue with him was away from football and after he was gone from the Panthers. He may have been out of his depth but never quit on us.
    • From where they were one year ago to now, pretty incredible. I mean, say what you want about Vrabel he is no Jerrod Mayo.
