You keep mentioning Ryans. Is he going to interview or nah?

Think the ship has sailed there honestly. He can't interview with us until next Monday and I think Tepper's going to have narrowed down his list by then.

edit: this tweet around the interview process could be useful to add to the OP

Count me in the minority who likes Kellen Moore.

He gets way too much disrespect and I really don't understand why.  Is he a perfect candidate?  Of course not, but if you want the perfect candidate, you will be disappointed.  He would be on the same caliber of hire as Zac Taylor, Kevin O'Connell, Matt LaFleur, etc.  A young, hot-shot OC who used to be a quarterback who might need some refinement and maybe a year or two to really learn how to connect with players, but the potential is sky-high.

The offense has finished 6th or higher in PPG 3 out of the 4 years he's been OC.  The one year they didn't finish in the top 6 was in 2020, when Dak got hurt and they still finished 17th in PPG with Andy Dalton largely starting most of the season.  Cowboys were 22nd in scoring in 2018 and 14th in 2017.  Moore has been the difference maker.  He does a great job getting everyone involved, from the WRs to the TEs to both RBs.  And he's been able to keep the offense productive despite injuries.  He's shown signs of being very creative and I think he's one of the best short-yardage play-callers in the business.

My #1 choice?  Probably not.  But there is way too much trashing of him on this forum.  I don't know what more people want.  Some of you complain about going for a guy like Payton.  But then you don't want to go for a guy like Moore, who has consistently coordinated one of the best offenses in the entire NFL year-in, year-out, and did so by transforming Dak from a conservative QB to someone willing to push it down the field and make plays.

If we hire him, he will have my full support.

I'd still take Kafka over him, mainly because I love that he learned under Reid and Daboll.  Steichen's work with QBs is hard to turn down either.  But I think Moore belongs in that conversation with the two of them.

I feel like Moore's issue with some is he got hyped up TOO soon.  So of course people hold him to higher expectations than they do the others.  But he has more play-calling experience than Steichen, Dorsey, and Kafka.  And has the success to back up the hype.

Of the candidates left, I think Steichen is my preferred option at this point, but I think after some consideration I'd prefer Moore to Kafka and Dorsey due to his playcalling experience. I'd be happy with Payton too if that's how it shakes out.

Not sure Wilks gets to keep Holcomb if he stays, though I realize he prefers that. If I’m Tepper and settle on Wilks, he would need to hire 2 new coordinators. Something along the lines of Reich and Fangio would work.

I hope Tepper talked to Wilks about that Tampa game. If he wants to be here longer than a year or two he has to cut the conservative play-not-to-lose crap. There is a reason why Rivera had so little success because coaches like Rivera, Fox and Wilks  depend so much on a coin flip. Hoping everything goes according to plan and if not just keep doing the same thing with no adjustments.
It is why Fox and Rivera had so many losing seasons even though they had so much elite talent, and why during the few seasons everything clicked the Panthers were really good.
TLDR: Wilks and Rivera style of coaching depends too much on luck. I would hope Tepper would tell Wilks that he has to change how he coaches or put him on a very short leash.
I do not have much faith in interim HC being given the full time job. History says they just do not work out.

Payton then Steichen or bust for me dawg (unless Tepper is willing to come crying back to Harbaugh, which he should…)

I do not know if I can stomach an entire season of Wilks being our head coach.
I was hoping when Rivera was fired I would never have to shout my complaints about him ever again. But looks like I may have to dust off the old things I would yell at my TV if Wilks is hired.
I still can’t believe we have a Rivera-like coach in the top 3 when we were so glad to see Rivera gone.

    • You’re playing madden we’re talking real football stuff…. He does have you seen his special on internet he def thinks he’s getting paid
    • Without the team having an identity kinda hard to predict what they value.  They either are really trying to build a balanced team, or preparing for another swing at qb if Bryce doesn’t pan out. Seems like we value the o line but the $ spent there has been underwhelming besides Lewis, you could say it’s because of injuries but still hasn’t been worth the investment. as already stated, the whole handling of Bryce young as a whole has been ass backwards, we spent the years we’re supposed to take advantage of having a qb with a lower cap hit, building the team up to be adequate. now It appears, key word appears, the saints have done it correctly, which is painful to even think about. Regardless, I hope the front office has paid attention to qb contracts recently, such as Tua, Kyler, Daniel jones(pre colts) and don’t settle for subpar qb play at franchise qb rates
    • This is the flaw in your logic.  Cutting 3 of our best players will somehow move us from whatever we are to "compete". Even the most Young super fans are not predicting a ceiling above top 10-12, and that will not nearly cut it.  Someone will need to break the log jam of QBs getting nothing or North of 50. Our qb is at best a middle ground, lets hope it will be us that also manage to pay the worth at about 100 over 3 years.  And before you jump me, yes that is only of he improves.
