Revisiting the CMC Trade

So if the 49ers make it to the Superbowl how does that effect our draft picks?

When we traded the picks, SF was struggling and the total value was equivalent to ~late 1st.

If SF wins the Super Bowl, those picks will be roughly equivalent to a mid 2nd total value.

In reality, I prefer having four separate picks over just one mid-2nd since it increases the likelihood we select someone worth a mid-2nd.

I think the point of the "RB aren't value positions" is being misconstrued. It's not that it isn't of value, it's that it's easy to replace. Foreman...for example. Replaced CMC and almost willed us to a playoff berth.

You can get a decent back in the mid or late rounds or get someone off the street to perform well or better that expected. Hence why the value isn't as high as say a CB, QB, DE, LT, etc.

The picks we got for CMC, no one else would have given up what the niners did. If there were other teams willing to give up all that, then you'd have a bidding war for CMC, which never happened.

The Foreman that ran for 9 yards against PIt, 23 yards against Cinci, 24 yards against Cinci, and 35 yards against Tampa?

It's all fine and dandy that he got big running games against terrible Run Ds like Detroit and Seattle, but let's not pretend Foreman is the reason we almost got a playoff berth...

Literally Sam had more of a role in us almost making the playoffs than Foreman

RB are disposable sorry that's the facts even the ones you admire.

He sure has hell ain't winning this game for 9ers

Cute comment but once again the guy goes for over 100 yards on the ground and through the air and averages 5.6 yards per friggin carry.

The Eagles are a force and the 9ers had a spectacular season with Mr Irrelevant at QB. That’s what “disposable” gets you.

The over/wrong use of the word literally could not be illustrated better✊🏻

It’s probably more likely that good defenses can commit enough guys to stop the run AND defend against the 150 yds Darnold is attacking you with through the air🤣🤣🤣🤣

That is because we didn't need him to throw in most of the games he started because we were playing terrible run defenses and for the most part got relatively big leads. He was one of the only reasons we had a chance to win the "win-and-in" playoff game against the Bucs despite having zilcho defense and zilcho run game.

He had an absolute stinker in the Saints game, but that was a meaningless game and against 1 of the more underrated defenses in the NFL when they are healthy. Prior to that game, I'm not sure we could have asked for much more of Sam.

My point is that guy saying Foreman almost willed us to a playoff berth was far from the truth. In fact, Hubbard probably had as many yards as Foreman during our winning stretch when you factor in the differences in carries. I don't see anyone here saying Chuba almost willed us to a playoff berth... The oline played great in most of our wins down the stretch, which let our RBs pick up 1st down after 1st down and avoid passing altogether.

Had CMC been effective in the wildcat/QB role and lead the 49ers to the Super Bowl I would have been sick to my stomach for weeks. Instead he single handedly shows how ultimately ineffective running backs are at moving the needle for a team without a legit passing threat. The 49ers absolutely overpaid for him and will still have nothing to show for it.

All those fun stats you threw out added up to a whopping 7 points. He's right. In today's NFL you aren't going anywhere without an efficient passing offense. RB's are pretty easily replaceable and we absolutely made the correct decision. Having a good offensive line is the key to everything. A good line makes most any RB serviceable without having to dump a ton of money into the position

Funny you mention the games we lost because Foreman was stopped by good Run Defenses. Incredible, some of you guys are just this ignorant. Also you named Cinci 2 times?

Like Foreman creating a Running game AFTER CMC leaves isn't the reason we fuging almost got to the playoffs? How do you think Sam got to be productive? The passing game all of a sudden start working? Do you know the fundamentals of football? The Run game opens up the passing game.

All of you mad at CMC being gone where the fug were you when he was injured and non existent this whole time? Now that he's fine in SF and with a coach that also knows how to utilize him all of a sudden you wanna cry over the trade. point blank period he wasn't doing jack poo here and that's why he was traded. This coaching staff could not use him correctly. Like for fugs sakes, USE YOUR DAMN BRAINS! smh.

    • Even all the rookie QB's who haven't played a single snap ranked above him? I really hope Bryce is using all this as motivation in some capacity. Because if this doesn't motivate him I don't know what will.
    • Of course. That’s what I said. Bad goalie play and the style of defense. Florida played amazing.  Rods decision to stick with a struggling Freddie cost us. Plus, Florida may be more talented than us and they play a very heavy game. Something we don’t do well minus Svech.  Glad the rangers lost.
    • You should because before the preseason fiasco and the start of the season fiasco, all the reports, including Frank’s responses, were that Fitterer and Reich were in lock step. Remember the press conference where Fitterer talked about both he and Frank saying who they wanted before and after the draft process and that they both picked Young and it was glorious? People got hung up on Tepper saying the point guard analogy in April when Brown was interviewed by a Panthers reporter describing how a QB needs to be a point guard in huge detail. That was in February. I think Tepper was just parroting Brown to make himself look like he knew what he was doing. Mrs. Tepper hugging Bryce always overshadowed CJ saying how he called her Mama Tepp. We fuged up as a team, probably more so because Fitterer always said he had Young as his #1 the year before, probably because we looked at all the QBs that year as well. Reich’s love for CJ started when he got on the hot seats for frankly doing a horrific job. He's been in the league a long time and has a lot of media friends and that was a face saving CYA which we know well with many years of Hurney. Still amazing to think how much better the team was under Rhule/Hurney before Fitterer got any control when Rhule was on the hot seat.
