Carr’s destination betting odds

Was listening to Boomer Esiason this morning, he makes no secret that Frank Reich is his best friend.  He spoke about Carr for a while this morning and the potential of the Jets signing him (it’s a NY/NJ marketed show), and Boomer is pretty adamant that it’s going to be between the Saints and Panthers and that he think Carolina is the perfect fit and where he sees him landing.  Again he talks to Reich regularly 🤷🏻‍♂️

it might be settling in that we won’t be able to get down far enough to get one of the top 3 guys, which in that case makes Carr our best available option.  Looks like Indy and Houston are guaranteed to take 2 of them.

That's a given. The rest will be determined after those 2 picks. Nothing will start to come into focus until we see if the Bears trade the 1st pick before they have to make the selection.  Until that happens you will not know who may go where.

They were ranked 10th this year

Saw that and was surprised.  I have a friend whose son (Brandon Parker) was injured this year but he was the RT for the Raiders--in fact, my friend played for the Steelers.  We talked earlier in the season, and he was describing an OL train wreck.  So I based my statement on that.

Furthermore, during week 15 the Raiders had the ninth rated OL, but were rated 24th in the NFL in QB pressures--that is the key stat, imo, if you are rating the OL for a QB.

The goal is to get a franchise QB!

What are we talking about. So we pass on a franchise QB to take another aging 32 year old QB who has 1 playoff appearance on his resume?

I want another Cam Newton type talent. We actually made a SB with this kind of QB. Who wants to play for mediocrity every year with Derek Carr. I just don't understand why fans are against adding a franchise QB.

We been sitting on draft picks for years. If there is a chance to get a true Franchise QB you do it. But I guess all fans don't think like me...

I see your point--I genuinely do--however, if you take Jackson (even at 26, he has been pretty durable considering how he plays) but I try to read the tea leaves. What I want and what I share are not always the same thing--I try to analyze what they will do based on the moves already made, my assessment of risk, etc.  Emotions are great on the field, but off the field, they would get you fired.

Keep pumping out your perspectives--you are not always wrong!

They started off really bad but improved as the season went along. They ended up having the top rusher in the entire league.

If the last decade is any indication, you're best off if your QB is still on their rookie contract or otherwise is at the top tier and worth paying for. Carr doesn't fall in either category. Also the fact his prior contract had those stipulations scares me. What he'll probably want will likely be too much financial and from a flexibility standpoint.

Yeah he ended up ranked 21st on the NFL QB index for the year, behind Pickett, Purdy, Fields. Sandwiched in between those guys and Dalton/Darnold. The 3 ahead of him are on rookie deals, and then two behind him plus guys like Brissett/Minshew will play for $5M-10M max. Dunno if he'll get it but Carr is going to want somewhere around $30M a year.

Then is it safe to assume that they had a good run-blocking OL, but if the QB pressures stat was near the bottom, it must have been a really good run-blocking team?

    • Didn't  see this posted (since 2023) but since folks have been posting that you can't judge a draft class for three years (a ridiculous take), I thought I'd post this to see what people thought about the 2023 draft. Unfortunately this may not be the most interesting class to do this with but I do quite like retrospective draft grades. Would appreciate other's takes on this (and other recent) draft classes.   1(1) - Bryce Young QB: I am a bigger Bryce Young apologist than most (maybe all). I like the kid. But there is no way around it: This was a terrible pick. If he had been picked in the 4th or even the 3rd round I would feel pretty good about it. But this was the first overall pick that we gave up two firsts, our best offensive player to get.  GRADE: C -    2(39) - Jonathan Mingo WR: not much to say here here. He was here for two years. His yards per catch are on par with Bryce's yards per pass. Rough stuff. To date he has still never scored a touchdown in the NFL GRADE: F   3(80) - DJ Johnson OLB: a pick I hated as soon as it happened and an example of why the premise of this thread is honestly dumb. This was a bad pick when it happened. Most people knew it.  Then came training camp and he did not look good. Then came the preseason which confirmed what we saw in TC. Then came the season which confirmed what we saw in preseason. To date, he has half a sack in his career. GRADE: F 4 (114) Chandlers Zavala G: Honestly the best pick of this draft which really speaks to how awful this draft is. Other than Bryce, the only pick still on the team. He is mostly average or below average depth which in round 4 is not terrible. But he had a pff score of 43.5 and though I think people have unrealistic expectations for draft picks, I still would want a little more from a fourth round pick GRADE: C+   5 (145) - Jammie Robinson S: I liked the pick when it happened but ended up being a disappointment. He logged 1 tackle with the falcons last year and not enough snaps to get a grade on PFF.  GRADE: F OVERALL DRAFT GRADE: F
