Just now, Mr. Scot said:

I read the rationale. He based the pick on the notion that we picked up a veteran quarterback.

Still don't know about that pick at that spot 😕

Even so I can't see this happening. Where is this kid going to play? we going to release Moton? seems like wasting draft capital to me. If we dont go Qb i would think Edge or TE maybe even linebacker before tackle.

Adding tackle depth with a first round pick is fugging ridiculous, even if you disregard all of our other more intense needs. I knew most of these mock drafters don't pay attention to the Panthers or have a firm understanding of team needs outside of the glaringly obvious, but this is just taking the piss.

If we weren't in need of a QB so badly, I would have a hard time being sold on many, if not all of these guys.  This is the thinnest top tier I've seen in forever.

It's Anderson, Carter, Stroud, Young....and a cliff

Murphy, Wilson, the OTs & CB classes don't do much for me at all.

I'm digging the potential of many late-1st type talent and think that group has a large chunk that extends far into day 2, but there's just no top talent.

Actually, Daniel Jeremiah has a lot of close ties to North Carolina, and went to Appalachian State, so he's usually one of the better when it comes to assessing things for the Panthers. This time, though, I was like "he's crazy."

Then I looked at what Taylor Moton is going to be costing us over the next three seasons. We need him for 2023 (and cutting him would not in any way improve our cap) but in 2024 and 2025 we'd save $10.7 million and $17.5 million by cutting him and letting someone else pick up the tag. And Moton, while still good, hasn't been great and those salaries he's scheduled for really demand greatness.

A starting tackle on the first round salary schedule for four years and with a fifth year extension looks really attractive from a dollars and cents sense. Bookending it with another first rounder (Icky) on the same line looks really genius both in cost and impact.

Still, I'd rather see a DE or TE in that spot for us.

I really like DJ, but this mock ain't it. He is one of the most knowledgeable and informed analysts out there, especially when it comes to us.  He's always been fair too.  But this makes no sense regardless of FA.

We definitely would go Edge/TE/WR if not QB, imo.

    • I don't think so. I think once you're measuring electronically, the spot is where the sensor says it is. So if it says half yard short of the line to gain, that's the spot. Now how that works with scrums and the ball moving on two minute drills and poo is anybody's guess.
