So... Common Sense Says We're Drafting Stroud... Right????

See that’s the thing. Young is a complete QB prospect with one glaring flaw….size.

Should we pass up the best QB because he “might get hurt”? He also might not ever miss serious time.

I guess my point is, the only consistent issue with him is size. He’s the best QB if he was bigger.

It’s a pickle.

There is no better ability in sports than availability.  It doesn't matter how good you are, if you aren't healthy enough to play, your skill means nothing.

If we're talking about any position other than QB, then yea, maybe you take the chance on the "better player" as opposed to the one who has a lesser chance of getting hurt.  But Young's lack of bulk is a significant factor that can't be ignored, particularly after giving up everything we had to give up to get here.

If we just had the #1 pick from the start and could take Young without giving up future assets, then it's a little different, but we gave up far too much to take the risk on someone of his size.

I'm confused on how this helps the Panthers. Yes we get the #1 pick,  we will draft a new QB. But who is the QB going to throw too? McCaffrey is gone and traded Williams, oline is ok. Only good players left is RB Foreman and WR Marshall. Looks like the Jets/Zach Wilson scenario. I'm confused on how this helps the Panthers. Yes they get #1 pick, presumably they will draft a new QB. I don’t understand your arguments at all. What has ANY of those players done to take us to the playoffs? Nothing. Do you not understand how FA works? The other draft picks?

For the millionth time - we go NOWHERE without a franchise QB. About time we were aggressive about it.

If we had any common sense we would draft all defense , I don't see how anyone can think QB is our biggest need after the events in Tampa we do not speak of anymore , David Tepper doesn't own the Carolina Panthers, Mike Evans does

Even in a QB driven league, we are not winning anything without defensive depth

it just seems that the only reason to go to 1 is for stroud. Levi’s will be there at 3. If they think Stroud is dat dude, then gitter dunn and lets fuggin go.

if they take Levi’s at 1, then i expect it’s because the trade packages for 1 and 3 were similar, or even that Chicago wanted less.

moving back to 2 and taking Levi’s there, while picking back up next years 1 would be a 4D chess move.

D and WR can be picked up in free agency. Franchise QBs can’t. You need to draft one and hold onto it like your favorite stuffed animal when you were 2.

Trading up for Tim Couch/Ryan Leaf is never a 4D chess move. Levis was a reach at 9. At top-3, it's downright velcro shoes.

    • this     I never cease to be amazed at the number of people who will run up their blood pressure to get to the grocery store 30 seconds faster or are racing to get to work like it won’t be there at 8:02.   The only thing I’ve ever done that I think added more years to my life besides quitting smoking, was to learn to go with the flow behind the wheel.
    • The term you're looking for is "malinger(ed)", and he didn't.  I'm not sure why Panthers fans act like jaded ex girlfriends.  The dude is clearly injury prone as his time in San Fransico also proves. It's not like he got to San Fran and stopped having problems.
    • My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
