Those were fun teams. Hell, it was a fun era of basketball, period. Hopefully the game will evolve back toward that era and away from the current era of jacking threes and drive and flail.

Shades of George Shinn selling to a group (with Atlanta connections) that ended up moving the team to New Orleans.

Can't believe I'm saying this, but David Tepper has the cash to turn the Hornets into a decent team.  

It was being discussed on reddit that the group talking to MJ are worth less than he is, so yeah, they'll be cash strapped.

Damn.

The very least MJ could do at this point is to sell the team to a group that will take the Hornets to the next level.  Cash strapped owners would likely provide a poor product, diminish fan engagement and eventually fall prey to some billionaire looking for an NBA team to relocate. 

Bobcats/Hornets can't seem to catch a break.

What have the Hornets actually accomplished?

Good cash liquidity is an essential element of building a competitive NBA team.  It can't be done on a shoestring.

If you don't have good cash liquidity, you have no realistic chance.

Want to kill whatever enthusiasm is left for the Hornets in Charlotte?

Bring in an ownership group less financially capable than MJ.

I mentioned nothing about the Hornets. I was telling you the richest owner in the NBA doesn't equal success. You making it seem like getting a richer owner will solve the Hornets problems.

Stating the Obvious:  Yeah, it takes more than just having money to win, but without it, owners can't compete.

Question:  Why would any fan of the Hornets want cash strapped owners (poorer than MJ)?

As someone who has followed the team closely my entire life, including the bad Bobcats years, the problem is that MJ did not invest into the basketball infrastructure - scouting, analytics, training staff, assistant staff - like most other NBA teams. That is a clear money issue.

That coupled with the fact he has a bunch of yes men friends that have been helping him run the team for a long time means we are well behind the rest of the NBA.

Someone like Tepper who comes in and invests a lot to get the team back up to speed, pay an adequate salary to a good GM and coaching staff, etc. will very much help the franchise.

They may not have won any championships, but I’ll take their team over literally anything we’ve had the past 20 years.

These two guys in Woj's report...they aren't rich at all. I surely hope that some mega rich guy comes in an blows MJ away with an offer

I definitely won't. He was as bad as an owner as he was good as a player. Truly one of the worst owners in the NBA every year.

In the end Jordan is doing what he's always done. What's best for him. Sucks but it's the truth and why the team has been mostly crap.

      When I tell people I was at that game, they usually say oh that’s so cool you had the experience. I call it soul crushing. Why? The weeks and months leading up to it were great, the team was fun to watch every week…some weeks the offense was unstoppable and carried the team (saints and giants road games), other times the defense carried the load (jaguars, tampa). Lots of back and forth games against good teams (Seattle and Indy). Good young players on the team, but the veteran leadership was incredible…from Cam, Olsen, Kalil and J Stew to Luke, TD, Norman, Tillman, Jared Allen, CJ. Role players like Fozzy Whitaker, Cotchery (he caught that MFer), Philly brown, Kyle love, AJ Klein, and so on.  The Friday before the nfc championship my wife and I after a few drinks said let’s see what prices look like for flights/accommodations and we got to talking about how much prices would increase if we waited until we found out if we would be in the big game. We said screw it, we are only out $200 if we have to cancel.  Of course we come out and just pulverized the cardinals in front of the most raucous crowd by far we’ve ever had. We had no idea what we would do for game tickets and then found out a neighbor who worked for the team could get us 2 for face value (each employee got two of their own for free, something cool that JR did).  But then the NFL mafia decided that the storyline of manning going out on top like Elway would give them more goodwill than a non traditional QB who didn’t connect with their target demo and the rest is history. I never have and never will watch that game again. I am just hoping I can see them win one in the 2nd half of my life.
