I'll say this:

I was on the CJ Train before we traded up to 1 because I figured Young would be gone and we'd get a shot at CJ. Then we traded up so I've been looking at both prospects intently.

From a pure QB standpoint, I like Bryce Young better. He is ahead of CJ in terms of reading defenses, directing his offense, and handling pressure. He also seems to process what's in front of him quicker than Stroud. The more tape I see, the less I care how small he is. Dude just knows how to play QB, and he's better at it right now than anyone else in the class. RIGHT NOW. Not in the future, but as things currently stand.

Saying all that, I'm good with either Young or Stroud because I think Stroud has the ability to become a good NFL QB as well. But as things currently stand my rankings are:

1a - Young

1b - Stroud

Agreed. The pluses for Stroud are his size and accuracy. I’m not as confident in his processing abilities though.

I like Stroud but I really think the team has landed on Bryce.

I'm not worried about him making plays at the next level.  He is a very bright man and I think he can be great.  It's why I'm not upset if we draft him, I will be happy in fact.  I'm just concerned his body won't be able to hold up after so many hits from NFL players.  I know some of us don't like to hear it, but size does matter to a degree...

No argument.

I do acknowledge the potential that choosing either one could wind up being a huge mistake.

Lucky for us our jobs aren't on the line.  Well I guess the people whose jobs are make more than most of us will in a lifetime, so maybe we aren't so lucky after all...

I prefer Stroud because he’s the best pure thrower and I don’t think he’s reached his ceiling. He’s also a lot more athletic than he gets credit for and makes NFL type on the run throws every game

I would not be mad if Young is the pick as I think he will eventually add muscle and gain real weight. At worst he’s what the Cardinals want Kyler Murray to be with the studying and understanding of the game. That would leave us with a damn good QB.

Either way I’m happy.

Young is maxed out. He's playing as well as he can play mentally, but you can see he is limited physically. His arm is just not elite, and he's never going to be that dominant QB. He'll run the offense and make good decisions, but there are going to be times when he can't see his throwing lanes and targets. Teams can scheme to exploit his physical limitations. Yes he is highly intelligent and gifted instinctively, but do we really want to run a spread type offense and hope he turns into Drew Brees? Risky.

CJ has a cannon, and he can easily see over the line. And he can drop dimes all over the field, period. He has not maxed out his potential. There is room form him to grow, and if he steps his game up to the next level, then you have a dominant QB. A guy who can win the SB. On the other hand, if he doesn't really take it to the next level, I think you can still have a guy who something Geno Smith maybe. Not the end of the world.

I want CJ because his arm is better, and it's up to the coaches to to make something happen with him. The raw talent is there, and we have the coaching staff in place, so I'd take CJ. If CJ poops the then it was all his fault for not caring and giving it his all. The talent is there.

I want Stroud 100%!
I think as a college QB Young is slightly better but I also believe he is close to his ceiling. Stroud on the other hand appears to have a much higher ceiling and I believe he will flourish under our coaching staff.

Also, I am very concerned with Young’s slight frame and height.

Finally, CJ is from humble beginnings and has had to work for everything he’s gotten, Bryce…not so much.

For these reasons, IMHO Stroud is the pick, hands down!

    • CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Carolina Panthers coach Dave Canales said Friday that starters will play in the first two preseason games, stopping just short of admitting he made a mistake last season holding them out. The plan includes playing quarterback Bryce Young, who got off to a historically bad start to the 2024 regular season that got him benched after opening 0-2. Carolina opens their preseason schedule Friday at home against Cleveland, followed by an August 15 road game at Houston and August 21 home game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.   Canales said he will evaluate after the first two games whether starters will play in the third game. "Kind of going through it last year, we had a mix of veteran players, but [this is] predominantly a pretty young team,'' said Canales, who has at least six new starters to the defense that was the worst in the league a year ago. "I just can't pass up the opportunities. The reps in games are valuable. "[But] it goes to the night before, when guys know they're going to go out there, they've got to make a decision to play football. So it starts the night before with the prep. You start thinking about your plan, taking care of your body, making sure you get your rest.''   https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/45880676/panthers-starters-play-first-2-preseason-games-says-coach
    • You call the Cowboys purely for information, but we don't have the assets to pull off any realistic trade. Also, even if they would consider any trade, it's more likely they want to do it with an AFC team.
