Would it not be smart to keep M.C around?

No lose scenario. He lost a whole season with the injury and never had a chance.

Let him learn with the new pick from our ginger backup. Never know what develops in the long run. Doesn't hurt at all to see if he can develop and be a decent back up when A.D hangs it up.

It makes sense as long as they want to carry 3 QBs.  It's possible they will want to roll with just 2 QBs on the roster, which would presumably be the rookie and Dalton.

I'd be in favor of keeping him.  Worst case scenario, he never pans out.  But his only real cost is a roster spot, and he could be trade bait if he develops.

I doubt he has any trade value so I imagine he’ll have the preseason to show what he has. Staff has zero loyalty to him and he’s not going to get a ton of quality reps but hopefully he’s up to the challenge and can show enough they want to develop him.

He was always a project QB and we traded up to acquire him. He has had almost no real reps and was in the dog house with Rhule for whatever reason. That said, it doesn't hurt anything at all to bring him into camp and let him learn with some people who actually know what an offense looks like. We have nothing to lose by keeping him on the roster through training camp, and possibly into the season depending on how he does against Eason. If he's that bad, stick him on the PS and if he gets poached, then so be it.

That's likely the plan as long as we're not getting offered something more than what we paid for him at this point.  Cheap rookie deal is fine for a 3rd stringer.  We are one injury away from him being a very relevant piece on this team, and that injury/him having some play time could feasibly increase his trade value.

Think bare minimum he should be kept because poo happens in the NFL. Much like SF, our shiny rookie could get hurt and/or suck, and then the franchise is what…Andy Dalton’s?

And as previously stated, he may develop into a competent player that we can then trade for assets.

I know carrying 3 QB’s is becoming less common, but he’s last years 3rd round pick at the leagues most important position.

Should he be cut so we can keep a 3rd/4th nose tackle or safety who would clear waivers anyway (Corral most likely wouldn’t).

Oh and someone will mention Eason, but he’s already shown that he clears waivers just fine lol.

I think signing Von Bell actually would allow us to carry 3 QBs a little easier.

By getting him, Chinn becomes more of a utility player than someone locked into one position.  We could go into the season with 1 less player than normal at a few positions, Safety, LB, or even CB, and still be just fine because he is likely to play a bit of all 3 positions this year.

By carrying 1 less player at one of those positions due to his versatility and not needing to be dedicated to one position like last year, it lets us keep 3 QB's on the roster with less strain on the rest of the overall roster.
