Young VS Stroud, the greatest Panthers debate ever?

This has got to be the biggest debate, decision, discussion we've ever had in Panthers history.

Cam was a shoe in, Peppers was a shoe in at #1.

Coaching hires? Nope.

GM hires? Nope.

New owner? Gotta be up there but idk.

Did Cam try to dive on the fumble? Should he have?

idk, is this the greatest debate in Panthers history?

You're probably right. We have rarely had the #1 pick and it involves a QB decision. Does not get anymore impactful that that.

It actually makes me nervous because historically, whenever the Panthers have had a choice between two players they've tended to take the wrong one (Kerry Collins over Steve McNair, Tshimanga Biakabutuka over Eddie George, etc)

Of course, those were different Panthers organizations so I'm hoping this new version gets it right.

if any iteration of the panthers org/coaching staff should be trusted to make the decision, it's this one.

until i see otherwise...

I honestly don't understand the "debate" aspect. I get that people have preferences and want the Panthers to choose their preferred player, but how does "convincing" other people of what they should do factor in? What difference does it make? Who cares what other fans think in relation to your opinion? Why does it matter so much to so many of you that others here agree with you?

For me i don't see much point in arguing or getting upset about it because, from where i'm standing, we win either way.

I think there is some truth to that.

Whoever we pick is going to look better than whoever Houston picks,  at least at first.  Our line, weapons, D and coaching look better  atm and our division looks worse than Houston's.   We're the 9th worst team in the league, not the 2nd worst.

what's funny is the number of people who are pissed and offended and feel they need to retaliate if someone has the nerve to have a different opinion.

I have a preference. Plenty of folks here wouldn't like it. Here's the thing: I don't care. Makes absolutely zero difference to my life or fandom how many people or fans agree with me. Zero. Just don't get why people treat it like a friggin' cult and feel like they must evangelize everyone to their way of thinking. So weird.

I'm willing to give them a chance to show me otherwise, but the Panthers will have to prove they're different this time instead of being just another version of what we've seen over the years. There has been too many bad decisions over the years regardless of staff and GM for me to blindly hope again.

    • Would you just fuging quit trying to make us like him? That is his job, not yours.  Thank you.
    • Rookie season being key to uour argument. I didn't at all mislead about the talent Cam had to work with. Kalil was a great center. Olsen was a great TE. Our WRs were probably the worst in the league. Cam still won MVP, we went 15-1, and we went to the SB. Your attempt to bring up Cam to defend Bryce is desperate and clownish. Bryce has more talent to work with and has done WAY less.
    • Not exactly sure that is an honest assesment of the talent he had to work with that year. Olsen had over 1100 yards that season making the PB, Stewart had close to 1100 total yards also going to the PB. He had Kalil at C who went to the PB, Trai Turner at RG who also went to the PB, and Michael Oher at LT who played well enough that the Panthers offered him a new contract the following year. I wouldn't call that a trash OL. He also played with a defense that was stacked with talent as well.   "The thing we are doing better this time around is actually surrounding our #1 overall draft pick QB with talent vs. asking him to completely carry the offense. I just hope that effort is leading us to realize that the guy isn't even good enough to get carried." Please.... Did you not read the list of names Newton had to work with his rookie season. I guess you missed it so I will post it again for you... Steve Smith (PB), Greg Olsen (PB), Brandon LaFell, Ted Ginn JR, Deangelo Williams (PB), Jonathan Stewart (PB), Jordan Grossn (PB), Ryan Kalil (PB) on the offensive side and then he had Luke Kuechly (PB), Jon Beason (PB), Thomas Davis (PB), Star Lotulelei, Kawann Short ( PB ),Charles Johnson, Greg Hardy (PB ), Mike Mitchell, Josh Norman (PB)  For comparison, here is who Young had his first year.  Chuba Hubbard, DJ Chark, Jonathan Mingo, Adam Thielen, Hayden Hurst, Ikem Ekwonu, Chandler Zavala, Bradley Bozeman, Nash Jensen and Taylor Morton. Not a single PB player on the list and most of them aren't even playing any longer. Additionally, his HC was fired during the season and the defense was as bad as the offense.  You might not like the comparison but saying Newton had to completely carry the offense isn't exactly fair to the 4 pro bowlers on offense who played with him that year.
