There’s going to be some salty fans on draft night

I think 99% will be totally fine, most people want this whole thing to be done so we can move forward and get excited about our new QB (as long as it isn’t Levi’s 😀). What might trigger discourse is a potentially strong “I told you do” crowd. Hopefully that is kept somewhat in check.

Great game for anyone to watch if they want to see Young overcome adversity and take some hard hits.

Also Young's ability to reset his feet after escaping the pocket and throw a dime is special.  He can throw off-platform so well if he has too.  Look at 6:45.  Jukes the hell out of someone, still keeps eyes downfield, gets feet set and throws a strike.  Not many college QBs are doing that.

i've watched this game a couple times and he des get some really hard hits. some of them bordering on late and maybe even cheap shots. he handled it well i think.

i do think that people came after Cam hard and refs let it happen 1) because (as they said) he was big and he could handle it better and 2) because (and they didn't come out and say this , but you knew it) they didn't like his personality and felt he needed to be knocked down a few pegs.

Young 1) doesn't have  size so they can't use that one and 2) he can't be misconstrued the way Cam was as being cocky. i don't think he'll have it as rough as Cam was allowed to have it.

There's a lot to like in that tape and then there are things that you wonder will cause him trouble to some degree in the NFL. You like that he tries to extend the play but holding the ball the way he does is something the coaches are going to have to work with him on. You don't want to remove that from his game but also need to choose your battles wisely in that area.

the thing that i'm loving is that he's coming to the game mentally well ahead of any from this class and ahead of where most QBs have come into the league...i mean that's the insight from people within and around the league. i've got no doubt that this is one area that he'd be able to clean up. every other aspect, i'm just excited about seeing him do, no matter who drafts him. he's going to be a fun guy to watch.

Yeah, that could be an issue.  But sometimes you have to take the bad with the good.  Not every QB will be perfect, you just hope they maximize their strengths rather than their weaknesses.

Reminds me of Russ.  People crapped on the Seahawks OL, but Russ was responsible for a LOT of those sacks.  But Russ' improvisation is also what made him so damn good for so long too.  So kind of a double-edged sword, ya know?

But I do agree with you.  He will need to be smarter about what plays he chooses to extend or not.

I mentioned it in another thread, but I wonder if he will be the benefit of more RTP calls than others because of his small stature.

it could be. it helps that he's a really likeable guy. not that cam wasn't, but there were a lot of people irrationally put off by him and i think that he was targeted more than other QBs and more was allowed by refs because of his personality.

i think stuff like that looks more dramatic and is easier to see with smaller individuals so it always looks worst. players would have to learn that they won't be able to get away with anything close to looking like a roughing the passer play and they'll pull back more.

Probably. It really seems like a lot of the time refs determine a RTP based on how violent a hit looked, not necessarily if it was clean or not.

appearance is nearly everything, which is why you have players flopping dramatically. refs have to notice it and notice it as a big deal.

I want to believe, I truly do. But every time I see a picture of him I can't help but be worried for his parents. They must be a mess before every game. Is this the game my baby boy comes home in pieces?

I just hope we get our monies worth before the wheels fall off. Cuz it's probably going to be exciting watching him run for his life every week.

    • Right. But you do understand that there is no such thing as not signing free agents, right? That's what I mean. So make some good free agency moves and do well in the draft. That's step one. If you can't accomplish that, then this will just keep getting worse.
    • Sweet jebus this is idiotic Yes, overall team success in this league, you need a good QB, but beyond just that painfully obvious fact, let's get into the rest of the stupid in there......... First things first, you say.. "if we need a good QB for him to have success, then why are you drafting that player with the #1 pick" Show me one time I've ever said we would need a good QB for T-Mac himself to have success... you can't, because I never have.  I think you're referring to the "he's bad enough that we then have a Top 5 pick to target a QB" part of my post, which is very clearly talking about said QB, not T-Mac.  The other way to interpret that is just overall team success, which again, wouldn't be anything about T-Mac or his ability to impact the offense or overall team wins and losses. I'm quite sure I could do this with a number of teams over the years, but I don't want to spend the time to do multiple, so I'll keep it to just the 2023 Vikings right now since you wanted to use Jefferson as your example....... The Vikings went 3-6 after Cousins went down last year.  And two of those wins came before Jefferson even came back from his own injury, they were 1-4 in the final 5 weeks after Jefferson came back. In those 5 games, Jefferson had 31 catches, 503 yards, and 2 TDs Having the WR you specifically called out didn't help them go better than 1-4 with a bad QB, even though he still put up a great stat line for that time period either.  It also didn't make that QB good enough to where they then went out and brought in TWO new QB's this year to replace Doubs and Mullens who started down the stretch for them last year. And that's with 4th year Jefferson, not a rookie that T-Mac would be If you expect a WR getting drafted #1 overall to be the player to turn a franchise as bad as we are around in 1 season, make whatever QB we're able to put in there be successful, and lead us to a solid season, then you are literally insane. We are AWFUL, we have a few young guys who could turn into great players, but we are so far from being a good team, that there isn't any player we could draft next year that is going to change that in 2025.
