Albert Breer: Bryce Young scored 98 on his S2 teat

Interesting take by some, making it seem like it's a negative for BRYCE to have taken the test before.

first of all, we don't know whether others took the test before as well...

More importantly, Being prepared and trying to take advantage of anything is the difference between good & great!

It shows the guy takes this QB thing seriously. As far as we know, every other QB had access to take the test before or practice, so if he is the only one who did, that shows you something.

The desire to be great and try to gain every single advantage you can, is why the greats are greats.

Manning, Brees, Brady, Luke Kuechly etc...were great due to being more prepared than most.

I'm for 1 excited about getting a QB who we know will take advantage of anything to get ahead if he was the only 1 practicing for it.

I’m sure you can understand that if you were practicing taking the SATs or ACTs or any random test since 9th grade… studying and then taking it every year all the way to your junior year of college you might have an advantage over those seeing it for the very first time?

Anyone can do just that and come out with a high score.

"And of course, Young dominated this test too. In fact, he's been doing so since high school."

The quote implies that he dominated it since the first time he took it in high school. If he got a 98 or even a 95 or whatever a bit lower the first time he took it in high school that tells you it wasn't just high due to preparation. Also my understanding of the S2 is it's not really something you can prepare/study for to do significantly better like the SATs or ACTs. It's more of a processing test that you either have or you don't. Taking it multiple times can give you familiarity of course but I don't think it's the difference between an average score and an incredible score like Bryce.

But I also don't put a ton of stock into a test like this in general.

That's not what the S2 test is. It's a reaction test where you're asked to identify shapes/colors/numbers of an object/etc. quickly.  The only way you can improve on your score is by improving your reaction speed, which isn't something you can study.

Exactly people comparing this to SAT is just dumb. It’s not an Intelligence test, it purely measures processing speed of your brain which you can’t learn or get better at, maybe marginally.

I agree with this. Also everything I see about it talks about percentiles. I don't think this is a numerically scored test. I think it's a how well have you done on the test compared to others type of thing. Basically if the best guy took .3 seconds to indentify the object or whatever and the worst guy took .7 seconds, well .3=100 and .7=0, until someone does even better or worse on that exercise. I can't say this for sure, but that is the impression I'm getting since it's scored as a percentile.

I also don't think it's the be all end all. Just one peice of a puzzle. Would love to know more info, especially outliers good and bad. If they are trying to be scientific at all, they need to have it peer reviewed.

    • You are right--it was DC.  I remember talking to him at Belk in Albemarle one day--the Panthers were on a bye and they were (at the time) a disapointing 4-4.  I mentioned that the record was disappointing and he seemed to get a bit annoyed.  He dId not say anything.  I trying to suggest that we will get better, but I think he was pretty upset about it.  No hard feelings, but the man was simply trying to shop with his wife and this annoying jerk starts making comments about his job---I get it.  I apologized, telling him that I was trying to be supportive and not critical--he did not think it was a big deal.  I'd see him at events from time to time-he'd wave or say hi, but it was awkward for me.  Figured I would say something stupid.  Jordan was pretty popular--nothing like she seems to be now--she is holding her own in a man's world...proud of her.
    • Like we have had the last 3 years.
    • In May of 2026, it looks like a challenging schedule...and it probably is.  I rarely listen to the "strength of schedule" conversations that light up social media this time of year. Each year teams improve and decline. I think there's chunks of the year we need to take care of business and the week 5 bye is not desired.  I do think if we don't hit the bye week at 3-1, it's going to be a major uphill battle given the schedule in front of us. This season falls on three people, regardless of schedule strength: Canales, Bryce, Evero.  Canales: Finally can truly coach all aspects of the team and not focus with gameday prep for OC duties anymore. He drives the bus and needs to get these guys in position to win each week. There's no way vets come in and put it on the line every week to watch our QB sh!t the bed (See: SF game last year). Bryce: Despite everyone's obsession with thinking Bryce is a guaranteed extension, I think this year will truly be his "prove it" year. If he comes out the way he has the past three years, I really don't see how vets and coaches can continue to put him under center long-term. He might play out that fifth year as the starter, but I think next offseason his long-term replacement is found. I also think there's no excuses with the weapons and commitment we've made on offense to insulate him with every possible weapon.  Evero: Best personnel he's had since he's been here...no excuses. Figure out how to blitz effectively. Figure out how to use CBs whose strengths are press/man. Figure out how to utilize a talented front-7 to get the hell of the field. Outside of FS and maybe....maybe ILB, there are few weaknesses on this unit.
